Hi Haddy, my dad (Barry Parker) used to drive for Spinks. My brother found this forum and the mention of Spinks. We were all reminiscing the other night about Spinks and AA Hales and the concrete beams he used to cart out of Lenwade. My brothers were his bogie boys. They found some pictures of his F89 he had with Hales on Euro wheels website.

Is this the one?

That’s the one. Did you work for Spinks then?

Hello All
This is my first go at a post so be kind please. No pics, sorry, just a memory jogger.
Keith Alexander - Concrete beams from Lenwade? on Atkis. He lived on Victoria Rd. Diss but no idea where the motors were kept.
Syd Barham who had pale blue units - early Mercs ( 1418) near Diss swimming pool.
Humes brown livestock lorries of all makes and sizes from Palgrave . ok that’s suffolk but you could pee into their yard from Norfolk.
Bux Box from Rushall . Red Dodge Artics, then Mercs.
Ben Wyatt, Snetterton, An AEC Mk 5 and a Scammel Low-loader pulling his own plant.
Chickgrit, Snetterton I think had tippers.
Archie King had tippers
Podmore Haulage had Transits, Terriers, AECs on the Travenol contract, also a F88 and fridge-box.
Favor Parker from Long Sutton
If I think of any more that haven’t already been mentioned I’ll let you know.

My dad used to drive for Freddie Barham, Syd’s son, he did Switzerland in an 88 when he started there, then got abrand ne wF10, flatroof. His yard was in Diss next to the swimming pool, it is now a big computer shop. The swimming pool is now a sport centre
Bux Box work is all done by Neil Bomford nowadays.
There is some stuff written on this site about Podmore and Travenol with a picture or 2, Podmore used to live in the same village as me (North Lopham)

I use to work for Travenol (Baxter now ) when they had a depot in Warrington , Podmore had 4 DAF 2800 pulling tilt trailer from Thetford to Warrington, Nelson and Basingstoke. I can,t remeber the name of the drivers, one was called Jimmy ■■ can,t think of what . Then TAYLOR BERNARD took over the transport

Hello Kindle
I lived for a while opposite Eddie Brocks shop and drove for Martin for just over a year after falling out with John Wyatt at Fridged Freight where I was a " gopher". Martin and Helen split up and she lives here in Redgrave now . First on Transits, then a 3t Terrier which was marginally better than the Leyland thrupenny bit I drove occasionally at Ben Wyatts. I took an engine for a Terex scraper from Blackwood - Hodge in Northampton to Scotland in that thing and could have driven geese quicker.
All the best for the New Year and thanks for the reply.

Hello again
Jimmy Kearney, Terry Sealey and I think David Bailey went on to HGV 1 when Poddy bought the DAFs. Ihad left by then and gone to Norwich on a course on HGV maintenance so I don’t know much about what happened after 1975. John Garnham had joined just before I left and Poddy bought the F88 and fridge to use his knowledge and put Pat Pearce behind the wheel. The next I heard Taylor Barnard had the contract and I think the operation was moved to Basingstoke.
Hope this helps.
Jim

Hello Boatchaser
I met Freddie in Morrisons in Diss about a month ago and he hasn’t changed one little bit. He once told me a story of when he had a stint he had at Wyatts ( Fridged Freight ) and ended up in southern Italy empty to load fruit and as a precaution telexed home to find out how much he ought to load.
He reckons that by the speed (very slow) and form of reply he got it must have been Johnny himself with " FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP AND THE FRONT TO THE BACK…CxxT"
Cheers and Happy New Year
Jim

What a star you are sir, Yes thats the names Jimmy Kearney, Terry Sealey and Pat Pearce, Dave Bailey. The operation was moved closing Warrington and Basingstoke as Baxters started a N.D.C. in Northampton. Couple of guys of Warrington went but then they worked for Taylors, wonder were the above named drivers are these days

I last saw Pat Pearce in Thetford back in 1987 and as far as i know he is still about.let’s hope so anyway! i was told he is still about when we had a Wyatt reunion at the AEC do at Newark 2 years ago!
