[I am fairly certain that from this case it transpired that, if you live in Cornwall and want an MOT in Aberdeen, there is nothing to stop you, you certainly are not tied to the nearest MOT station as long as it is prebooked.
:That is not correct.
Of course it’s correct. There is nothing in the regulations that says you must use the nearest MOT station or even one in the village/town/city/country where you live.If you were to make the above journey,it would be advisable to carry written confirmation of the test appointment though.
Using Wheel Nuts example,it would probably mean you would have to leave Cornwall the day before the test is booked. If you were stopped en route,no action could be taken against you (travelling to pre-arranged MOT).Nothing in the regs that the MOT must be carried out on any day you are using the dispensation.
If the vehicle fails the test, you can use the same dispensation to drive it directly to a place where it is to be repaired(again, has to be pre-arranged).So,you could phone a mate who owns a garage in,say Dover, book it in(this would have to be done before leaving Aberdeen) and it would be permissible to drive it there. After repair.you could book an MOT at a garage in Angelsey(before leaving Dover),and so legally drive it there, again directly. No requirement to go back to the original test station.
I know this is a bit extreme, but it just goes to show that the law is an ■■■
Also,if stopped by police while doing all this, and they check the vehicle over and find any faults you will probably be done under C&U regs anyway.
