Last week I passed my C+E test with only 3 minors and now I would like to find some work and get a little experience in both class 2 and class 1 work. Having looked around on the internet I would like to sign up to an agency or two and get some work. I live in North East Derbyshire near Sheffield and Chesterfield and was hoping someone on here might know of a good agency or two to get some work. I am trying to avoid the bad ones of course.
I’d look at which medium to large haulage companies are in your local area, decide which ones you fancy working for and find out the agencies who supply them

Your having a laugh , that l/p are paying ( advertising) £13-£16 ph Doncaster ( which is £11-£14 ph ) really , I mean £11 ph , how’s he going to pay his bills on £11 ph ,
And looking at there rugby rate 16 ph ( (actually £14 ph ) , they’ve cut that from the £17.50 you posted up
Are you in the office for them or something , I can’t see why you’d recommend someone to take a job for £11 ph , the kids trying to better himself , not ■■■■■■■ bankrupt himself
Worst recommendation I’ve ever seen on here by a country mile

First.I work at Rugby truckstop now.Still pay 17.50(incl holiday money).Still nobody reduce rates for all. This wages average for country.ready most agency not pay 20p/h.Reason one. This years very quit at all, more drivers than required. At Stobart was quit Christmas ready.Show me any one agency who offer you FTE possition and pay more than 17.50 or what you said 16p/h.This years due inflation, post Brexit,Covid we must be preparaited for worst life, reduced hours and possible some HGV drivers redundace. As soon if go very bad that drivers will happy work for 11p/h
HGV drivers job any one good, high paid job. With 1-2 week training and only 3-4 thousand pound and can get licence and earn easy 40-55K per years with plenty break, waiting time.In UK million people with high education or 3-5 years in colledge time get much less money, work more hard with only one 30 min break per day, must know much much more, must listen much much more bul’‘’'t,info. Some NHS staff with education work for about 20K only.I want more and more money but driving job sometime overpaid job if we review all job.In good time all and any job must paid at least 15p/h.But in UK still million people work for only 9p/h and hard job.
FFS Will you two stop throwing you handbags at each other and help the OP with more targeted information relevant to his location. So he doesn’t have to drive 30-40 miles from his home to get a shift somewhere
Heard alright things about QS agency who I think habe offices in Derby and Mansfield. Ok not quite Sheffield area, but often these agencies have contracts a lot further afield and more in your area.
You might even find companies will take on direct if lucky as the “insurance won’t cover” seems to have mysteriously vanished. Bigger ones tend to be more likely such as Culina (ok not the best but acceptable).
All agencies are basically the same to be honest. Will lie to you, will lie to the client, will lie to you. If they send you to really crap jobs constantly, just switch agency.

I didnt paid f.all for my training but did take 12months. And I have no formal education. 55K per year? I wouldnt get out of bed for that.

I’ve not got a clue about rugby other than what I can see on there web site , and that says £16 ,( so they’ve cut the rate you put on here ) which never mind holidays is paid £14 in your pocket , doncaster says £13 -£16 , which is the rough area he’s looking at , £11 ph is what his wage slip will say , it’s terrible , how’s he going to pay gas/electric going through roof , fuel ,
What happens if he’s ill , they don’t pay a penny , when he goes on holiday unless he’s saved money out of his weekly wage he won’t have any holiday pay
I’m sorry anjelis that a terrible recommendation , it’s what you’d take if you’re desperate , or like me at the time it suited as not many will put up with a driver off sick , doctors , hospital every five mins , they did
I’d just take a job at gist / or as you say great bear before I’d take one with lp
As I say let’s try & help these new drivers , not put them in a card board box for the night in some shop doorway

The only nhs staff earning 20 k would be cleaners / health support workers , that’s because there part time , a cleaner is on nigh on £10 ph
My mrs / daughter / sister are nhs and they earn as much as me for 1/2 the hours , and they get all the benefits , full sick pay , holiday , good pension etc
You must be on the booze , saying your better off working for a driving agency than a career with the nhs

I have helped him , I’ve saved him from a life of poverty on £11 ph at lp , assuming he takes my advice & not anjelises
I’ll take a guess that Markham Vale is in the epicentre of the OP’s area. So I suggest that they take a look at the companies that have depots there and find out which agencies have the contracts for supplying drivers to those companies. If Markham vale isn’t the area near where they live maybe they can tell us which companies are nearby then we can advise which agencies are supplying drivers, to save everyone second guessing

Try as well ADR Network agency .They have plenty contract around country.
If agency drivers become.e sick and he work under PAYE that he can get from government same money than full time staff.Stobart and most big companies not pay full pay if sick.Driver can buy own insurance for sick period, not expensive.
Holiday. What problem save moey from weekly payment??
So after a week of applying for jobs as a newly qualified C+E drive, I am yet to have any joy with agencies and have decided to apply to hauliers directly. Applied at Warrens, Great Bear, Culina Group etc and waiting back to hear from them.
Logistics people do not take on newly qualified C+E drivers without you having at least 6 months of experience for insurance purposes and this is now the same for logical recruitment agency and a few others I cannot remember the names of. When I quizzed a lad at logistics people today he said the insurance provider for the agency wants experience and it would be better to apply to companies directly and get the 6 months of experience and then come back to agencies. Not sure how true that is but so far I’ve had zero luck with agencies.
So I think it’s time to take a look at companies directly and go from there.
