Frost89:
… are LGV instructors like Car instructors where they have to have an instructor licence and have it on display?
NO - there is no such requirement
I was considered a successful LGV instructor between 2005 and 2008 and I had no qualifications at all - all perfectly legal
Wow, I assumed that like motorcycle instructors there was vigorous testing involved! In that case I will definitely be inquiring into my trainers’ past experience!
So did I actually, so there is no requirement for the instructors to have any instructor training? So can anyone just stick L plates on a wagon and call themself an instructor?

They must have held the relevant licence for 3 years but unfortunately yes anyone can have a go at being an LGV Instructor without being qualified - crazy isn’t it
A perfect example of the importance of shopping around.
It’s a ridiculous fact that anyone who’s held an LGV licence for 3 years can buy a rusty old truck and stick L plates on it. And they do.
At the other end of the scale, there’s a handful of trainers whose schools are actually accredited by Driving Standards Agency. Those of us in that group have NO option but to employ qualified and registered instructors.
Many folk out there consider that’s a good thing.
Sadly, some prefer to pay a bit less and take their chance!
Well it’s all going well, the other pupil turned up an hour late so I had a while going over the lorry and the reverse park it’s a lot easier then I thought it was and the instructor is ADI qualified so he teaches really well
I am seriously pleased it’s going well and you’re happy. Just out of interest, ADI qualification is irrelevant for trucks. That applies only to cars. The qualification that matters is the DSA Registered LGV Instructor; the badge is blue.
Loads of fun and so easy, well for me anyway, the other guy didn’t stop when he was told and had a collision with a wagon and drag, also speaks little English so isn’t understanding the instructions
Brilliant day! Loved it, I got taken on one of the hardest test routes and aced it, got the parking down to a T gear changes and brakes are all sorted, just need to make sure that I check the mirrors every 10 seconds and eveytime i do something different, main thing is, I need to stop falling out of the wagon
So tomorrow is the day 9:45 test time and I’m pretty confident, I think I’ll pick up a few minors but I don’t do anything seriously wrong the other guy who was train gin with me failed for 46 in a 40 a serious for something else and 16 minors
