Hi Sam - Welcome to the weird and wonderful world that is TNUK!! Passed my C a month ago and have found that this forum is pure gold for newbies like you and me. These guys really know their onions, and are very, VERY helpful. Good luck with everything!

Hello and good luck with it.

I’ve just sent my licence off to start training for C with the intention to go straight onwards to C+E ASAP.

Loads of info, advice and helpful peeps here

Thanks for the welcomes, my theory is on Tuesday and I’m feeling pretty confident  have been passing the mock exams at anything from 98% to 100% a few more days of revision then I should be able to actually get behind the wheel  hopefully the training company I’m with can get me training pretty quick

Theory test day today, feels like GCSE exams again

Good luck! fingers crossed

So what’s the news??

Got 97/100 on the theory just need to swat up on weight and dimensions and got 71/100 on the hazard scored 0 on one clip for clicking too many times (the tractor in the clip looked like it was going to hit me) all in All well chuffed!!! Bring on the practical training  just need to see how many lessons they are going to give me and how soon they can. Gonna be a good Christmas

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the pass

Well done.

Yay, well done!! The practice paid off  Onwards and upwards (up into the cab!)

Just got of the phone to the training provider, looks like it’s gonna be February/march before I get any training :frowning: it’ll be 4 days with my test on the 4th day and 2 trainees To 1 instructor and either will be done in Milton Keynes or in hook, I was expecting MK as that’s what it said when I booked but they are both an hour and a bit from me so I guess I’ll just get a cheap hotel or something

Have you gone to a proper school or have you gone through a broker/middleman ?

I went through hgv training centre, I thought they were a uk wide school but I’m thinking maybe they are a broker, they are going to try and get me in sooner but they say they have a lot of people wanting to get it done ASAP like me. Tbh I went with them because their website was very informative and easy to use and they looked like a big company so I saw that as being better then using a small company as they’d prob be able to give a better pice. Really I should have shopped around but I was a day away from losing my job so I wanted to get into the industry ASAP.

hgvtrainingcentre.co.uk/HGV- … tAodpBoA1Q = BROKER

When you said 4 days with test on day 4 that was the clue to it being a broker

What they do is to charge you the general 5 days course price with test on day 5 rate you would get going direct with a proper training school but only give you 4 days so keeping the money for the 5th day for their ‘service’ - service meaning they sit in an office and fob you off to the nearest and cheapest school to you they can find = nice easy money for them!

They do not usually pay the proper school until the last possible moment and the longer they can keep you waiting the longer they gain interest from the money you paid them = very crafty

oh we’ll I sent the chap t hag I’ve been talking to an email earlier saying that when I signed up I wasn’t told there would be such a long wait and they made it sound like it would be quick and easy, am gonna wait to see what I get back but I’ll prob try and get my money back and go with someone else, they’ve put me through my theory test so M happy to let that money go as they provided a service that I was paying for.
Gave a quick ring to JLD driving who is near me they want 1400 for the training but the people I needed to speak to had gone home so I’ll call back tomorrow for a clearer. Picture. I’m currently paying the broker the same money but that included the theory and practical test fees the practical training and 14 hrs of cpc so will see if they can match it. Live and learn

Brokers will often delay booking the practical training. After all, that’s the expensive bit. By doing this, they have the use of your money to keep their business afloat. Having booked the training, IME they will then use every possible tactic to pay the trainer as slowly as possible. This also keeps them going.

I’m not at all surprised that they quoted February. I doubt if the trainer would get paid before April. So exactly how long have they been playing with your money?

I will do anything to beat a broker. Maybe you’d do well to email me.
