Newbie regs quiz on rest periods

The training system for newbies is very lacking in regards to the regulations which they must know in order not to get infringements so I decided to help with a little quiz on the weekly and daily rests.

I made a visual spread sheet to assist in this and it shows what is legally possible
(If I have cocked up on this spread sheet I am going to look like a right plonker  )

Q1 - Why can the sat + sun of week 2 be used as the regular weekly rest for week 3
A1 - because it is at least 1 minute into week 3

Q2 - Why are the weekly rests coloured green not being used for any of the fixed weeks in yellow or orange
A2 - because all the other weeks already have a weekly rest used for them so these are extra weekly rests

Q3 - Do the weekly rests coloured green need to be compensated for
A3 - No - only reduced weekly rest used for a week need to be compensated

Q4 - When does the 10 hours owing from week 4 reduced weekly rest get paid back
A4 - with the regular weekly rest used for week 5 as there is enough hours over the 45 needed for the regular

Q5 - Why can week 4 have 6 reduced daily rests in it
A5 - because a weekly rest resets the 3 max reduced daily rest rule

Q6 - In week 5 there are 11 hours off between finish tue and start wed so why is it a reduced daily rest
A6 - because not all the 11 hours off fit into the 24 hour period from when the shift started on tue

Wow !
That looks like a maxed out shift pattern for Maritime, (so I’ve heard) with the odd 16 hour day & plenty of reduced rests thrown in for good measure.

Family ? What Family ?
You’re a member of the Maritime Family now.
Mummy Maritime, Daddy Maritime & all the little Driver/Children Maritimes.

Ah but I hear you say, “you can earn all this lovely money”
That’s great, but you’ve got no life beyond work & you need all that Wonga for the Divorce Lawyer’s/Parasite’s Grotty Little Mits, when they sit there listening to your side of events, slobbering at the thought of all that money they take off you for a few hours work.
(Phew ! Got that off my chest, lol)

martinviking:
with the odd 16 hour day

OOPS - what day is that ?

Week 3-Thursday. Lol.

Its ok - it was designed as a learning tool

wow 70hours weeks that’s almost double what I do now(not driving job). :open_mouth:

wow 70hours weeks that’s almost double what I do now(not driving job). :open_mouth:

(breaks and POA to be deducted.)

WTD = 60 hours work Per Week MAX, Averaged out to 48 hours per week, over 17weeks.

I THINK :unamused:

I dont mind being told i am wrong , as long as i am being put right.

17 or 26 weeks

WTD doesnt account for breaks or poa (i think) just driving and other work.

To be honest all I know now is that you must have 11 hours break between shifts and you can drive maximum 9 hours a day, but you can exceed it twice a week. There is a very useful link ( dunno if I can post it) but there you go. If it spoils quiz, please remove.

Q1
A weekly rest period does not have to be completed in a fixed week**, a weekly rest period that crosses over two fixed weeks (starts in one week and finishes in the next) can count for either week but not both.

The previous week was a holiday so no weekly rest needed for that week
** A fixed week is from 00:00am on Monday to 11:59pm on the next Sunday.

Spot on - it can be used for that week because it is at least 1 minute in that week and it has not been used for the previous week

so ROG, how do i know if ive got the answers right■■?

If they are incorrect then I will do an explanation explain why and if I get it wrong plenty of others will be along to make sure I get embarrassed
