New speeding fines legislation is working,

hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hul … mph-414722

It’s raising lots and lots of money.

Man's £775 bill for driving at 52mph - and 10 other speeders who've been caught - Hull Live

It’s raising lots and lots of money.

It doesn’t list the speed limits for the road they were caught on.

However, I’m not condoning speeding, not at all.

Am I right in thinking that speeding fines are synonymous with earnings nowadays?

They all deserve what they got. Some drivers think speeding is OK and only a minor offence till a child gets killed.

Keep inflating the fines and catch as many as possible.
Far too many idiots on the roads anyway.

Being local I can tell you that theyou were all less than ten miles an hour under the speed limit except one.

Whilst I’ve always said that a speeding fine is a voluntary tax, I think its getting g out of hand now. Is exceeding the speed limit by 7 mph at 2 am on a deserted road really worthy of a several hundred pounds fine? And how many police hours were spent chasing all these speeding tickets? Time that could be spent out there catching the real cause of the carnage on our roads, bad drivers.

Unless you are suggesting that a speeding driver isn’t a bad driver, that is what they are doing. 2am or 2pm. Speed limits do not change with the time.

UKtramp:
Speed limits do not change with the time.

No, but they do change with the passage of time! 3 years ago (in England and Wales) you’d be front page news in the Suburban Gazette as a maniac killer lorry driver if you were caught doing 50mph on a NSL s/c road, now it’s acceptable. What changed? Same roads, same infrastructure, same vehicles. There’s a time and place for speed, built up areas is obviously a no no, but leeway should be (and is given by a human copper) given for circumstanc ie, deserted motorway with good conditions etc.

that kind of speeding fine is just another stealth tax to bleed the uk driver.its obvious tl make no difference to anyones driving style the same as using a mobile.over here ive never heard of any hgv being done on a A or B road for doing any speed whatsoever ,theres a chance (rare) you may go through a van in a 30 but on any main road, the norm is 50 at least. its seldom apart from tosserco that you would come across a truck doing 40 on a main road.even asda and sainsburys do a good bit over.anyone else would be 50 before you think of looking at a clock.ive been stopped a few times in the car doing between 40-45 in a 30 ,90+ on a dual(midnight and deserted road apart from plod hiding) and so long as you pass the attitude test, then its yes,no,3 bags full and away you go.different in scotland/england but a bit more relaxed in the north with reality ad common sense here.in the south its basically flat to the mat and slow down a bit going through a village and you will never come to harm.

And that is why Irish drivers get paid peanuts.

No, don’t get me wrong, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a voluntary tax. Personally, I choose not to pay it.
However, it’s got eff all to do with road safety. For a start, speed cameras don’t work. If they did, they wouldn’t catch anyone. If speeding is so dangerous, why is the first you hear of it a letter through your door three days later, surely they should be stopping you on the spot and showing you the error of your ways. Finally, what’s with all the stealth cameras and coppers hidden in tractors? If they want to dissuade speeding, they should be highly visible.
Stop lying to us by saying it’s about safety, how about a new speed awareness campaign. Speeding, it’s illegal, and catching speeders raises us lots of money.

The only kind of speeding fine that is a decent fine, is one that hits the rich as hard as the poor, as is the idea behind these new ones.

A very good point.
I believe the day of the 80mph motorway limit will arrive at some point. At the moment, doing 100 gets you a day in court, huge fine, multiple points, possible license suspension etc but when the limit gets increased, all of a sudden the penalty for doing 100 gets decreased with it and itll be three points and a fine. Nothings changed except the number in the red circle.

Reading through the “Speed camera myths”, it states that you don’t have to inform your insurance company that you’ve taken a speed awareness course as false!
When I took a speed awareness course about three years ago, taken by a well known local driving instructor, he did tell us that you did not have to declare your speed awareness course to ANYONE, employer or Insurance company, that’s the object of a SAC, no fine, no points, no record! It’s not entered on your driving licence, although the DVLA obviously have it on record as you can only take another SAC after three years clean driving, or is this another myth??
Declaring this sort of info to your insurance company will only result in your premium going up, surprise!

What part of a limit don’t some of you understand … if your in a 30 do 30, 40 zone 40 etc … your own fault if you are caught speeding …

Looks like the muppet who got caught at 52 mph was in a 30. I had quick look at street view.
The others are pretty hefty though.

pray tell for what reason can you compare a relaxed attitude to road traffic laws in ireland to the wage structure of drivers? remember ireland north and ireland south are 2 different countries.or is your nose put out of joint because they fly past you when your plobbing along

Makes me wonder if these eye watering fines are a result of the speeders going to court to argue their cases and losing, instead of taking the fixed penalties.

I miss the old meme, of ‘think of the children’ … hopefully it’s gonna make a comeback.
