The Renault is doing fine 9+ mpg genuine 21 ton payload. The radio was replaced under warranty within a few months, since then play developed in the centre bearing which was replaced under warranty along with an adblue sensor. Otherwise a pleasure to operate. This is my third auto truck (Volvo & Daf) there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of them. With regard to the under run bar I enquired about a new body recently and was told that I may well remove the bar after delivery but should the worse happen subsequently it would take some explaining
Good to here she’s going well what body have you got?
Big wait to get a tipping body these days.

Not wrong Dave, our 7.5tonner’s still not arrived, at least 2 months late.
Tony Hayton arkholme nr Carnforth, non insulated alloy body. Brilliant body fitted with a harsh flip net.

Its a long wait to get a tipping body Nathan. Its much longer these days.A mate of mine has a new eight wheeler chassis cab parked in his shed waiting to be told when to take if for the body fitted.
Cheers Dave.
Running a Scania at the moment, long term hire thing. Fuel okay, reliability so so, service centres so far spot on. I too am looking to sort something new out but it’s been a bloody nightmare with the dealers… MAN seem to me to be the most proactive at grabbing my business and they’re 8x4 has great ground clearance and good ‘off road’ capabilities. I know some fella’s with Hino’s and they’re not singing their praises.
I actually wanted a Renault but it seems that they pick and choose who they call back!!
A lot of new MANs around Oxford at the moment. Hino still not come up with Euro 6 engine, but Sinotruck (Chinese) are entering the 8x4 market with a mixer and tipper chassis soon.
We’ve tried to get a Daf demonstrator from HTC and even though they have 3 in their yard (I looked at them when I took our 8wheeler in for air con work) my boss has been told they don’t have one available.
I wonder if they’re being funny because my boss cancelled one earlier in the year?
They’ve got two CF Constructions with Boweld bodies (one Mighty Lite and one Taper Lite) and a Thompson one. We are considering Boweld as Thompson are getting too heavy. We need a steel one because we move mostly muck but do quite a bit of aggregate, but want to carry at least 19t (so that rules MAN out). Boweld let you choose floor thickness and body height/volume so we’d need to get the height right for the payload but for it to look full without overloading.
Quite a few Mercedes Arocs getting about now. I thought these were heavy but I saw one the other day with an Abba Predator body that tared at 12700. Very good for a muckshifter.
The new type approval rules will affect your choice of body heights. Boweld do three options on the taper light fasten it to a new Renault and you have cracked it.
What is the point to “Type Approval”? It just seems to be “stick some bars down the sides and rear to keep the FORS pen pushers happy.”
Does anyone still have the bodies calibrated to prove they’re x m3? Smiths used to have metre sticks down the sides (apparently so you could judge how much muck to put on) but I haven’t seen any bodies with calibration seals for years.
Don’t think type approval is like that. Chassis’s have been subject for ages but now it is the complete vehicle which means tweaking body sizes is no longer possible.
Putting small bodies on tippers is in the operators interests if they do stuff by the load, leaves more behind which means more loads to shift.
I can carry over 19t but I normally only have 16-18t on (I use the weigher but if the machine driver stops I don’t ask for more).

Why don,t Hino stick a ■■■■■■■ or Catterpillar(perkins) engine euro6 in their motors.?

Cat and ■■■■■■■ stopped making truck engines after Euro 4 came in, thus Fodens were axed. This is why so many Hinos appeared at the same time Foden finished.
I think Cat have stopped road engine production, and are putting more effort into marine and plant engines. However, plant now have higher emission standards called stage 4 so Cat will have invested in new engines as they’ve introduced a new range of diggers.
Cat and ■■■■■■■ are still strong in the states with engines in road vehicles, I know there are emissions legislation other too but not sure on levels compared to here
Cat truck engines are derived from internationals

The Navistar (International) engines are based on the old C13/15 CAT engines, I believe MAN had some input with the EGR system as the CAT ACERT used an internal system of EGR and it didn’t work very well when combined with a DPF.
They (Maxxforce engines) are using very high levels of EGR and to be frank, they’re crap.
This might sound a silly question, but do Aliweld make steel bodies? David Einigs’ have a new Scania with a black painted, ribbed (not common nowadays) Aliweld body. Einigs’ have steel muckshifters which made me wonder if AW make steel bodies aswell as alloys (strange to see painted alloy bodies).
A mate at Earthline told me today that EL managed to get some new Daf CF constructions with Predator bodies much faster than Thompson bodied Scanias, and the Dafs are pretty good in comparison apparently.
Been looking on Truck Trader etc and noticed a lot of new MANs and Mercs available but not Daf and Scania. Any reasons for this other than “they’re crap”?
Also, anyone have experiences with Fruehauf tippers? I didn’t know they made rigid tippers but I’ve seen a few about recently, look a bit old fashioned though.
We’ve just got a CF Construction with Thompsons’ Loadmaster Lite body on demo. For comparissons’ sake the demo tares in at 13t, my CF85 with Thompson Loadmaster body tares at 12800, so not a lot in it really but the CF Construction does carry 19t which is what we wanted. An OD who’s got an FMX on self drive hire has an Abba Predator body which carries 19.4 so they’re worth considering. Only downside to them is that they are 14m3 capacity, 1m3 less than the Thompson which might make it awkward to get a full load of clean stone on.
