I would love to hear from anybody operating a newish 8 wheeler be it hino or scania or anything in between. With euro 6 looming I feel it may be time to replace my 57 plate
daf.
I’m running 61 plate Renault on lafarge work euro 5 and its been perfecta I’ve had a couple of issues but nothing major
We had a new 8w Renault in January, been a lot better than the 58 reg MAN it replaced. Not as good as a Foden though.
Pursy
Wot you up to Barry?? Splashing out again!!! where are you running out off now?? Still owe you that gallon of oil you donated to Kippers Foden
Thx for your replies, I had a few prices and renault are by far the cheapest. What are they like on fuel is everyone going for auto now? Resale value is a worry, is aprox £12,000 better invested in a scania. Nice to hear from you Mark I left Tarmac Citheroe about nine years ago and have tried allsorts since. Will Pm you soon.
Mine does 7.5 resale is a worry but we didn’t have a choice were told had to get a Renault. But now they are letting people get what they want and a lot have gone for the scania and a couple volvos. If I had the choice would have got the scania. But like I said no problems with Renault.
Hino had it 12 months and no issues so far
Dean
Hino seem to be fairly bomb proof but I have asked a few local operators they all say that they are poor on fuel can you tell me differently Dean ?
I’ve heard poor on fuel too. Also reliable but parts very expensive.
Could anybody running a hino 8x4 please let me know about fuel consumption. I spoke to Ruttles from Chorley they said 6mpg was common but were on local work bouncing round landfill sites.
Try contacting Neil Price at Barrow, he has quite a few 700 series.
You don’t see a lot of O/Ds with Hino’s, that’d be enough to put me off.
I spoke a to one of his drivers at Elterwater quarry recently he had come of a daf and was very happy with his new Hino. Operating from there is fair test of man and machine. Although he was not an o/d Mr Price was still putting diesel in it.
Your operating from somewhere near us then Who you contracted too?
Was on contract with tarmac for about 16 years between Sandside, Clitheroe, Poulton, Blackpool and Wigan. Have thought many times about going back on contract at Carnforth. I am now working for some one else ? Who are you on for?.

Bardon from Back Lane mainly - 05 DAF CF
I ran a Hino 6x4 on tarmac/agg work.
Fuel consumption wasn’t great but not criminal. Worse than my old Daf 75 but then most things were.
Day-to-day the weight was a problem but not sure that applies to 8x4’s (seen em advertised with 21t payloads with tar bodies)
Reliability was excellent, simple to fix…BUT…Parts prices are all over the place some dirt cheap but somethings ridiculously expensive. Parts availability was bloody poor as well but that could be my dealer (liverpool based). I would say thats my biggest problem. I’ve heard some dealers are much better, depends on your area.
remember me hammer spoke to you at liverpool recycling had a volvo then
You boys must be doing ok
Haven’t seen a new contract haulier “owned” 8wheeler about NI since around 2008

My dads really happy to hang onto his '05 - No Ad Blue, No electric sheets, tailgate or other crap to deal with. As long as it stays reliable and Bardon don’t kick up a fuss he’ll keep it going
just had an alternator go on the hino i drive, wait for it £1500 for a new one from dealer!!! and thats not a fitted price either…i thought our fitter had got it wrong when he told me the price.sure one for my old daf was £400.
and its shocking on fuel.its is a grab though,so a lot of time with engine powering pto,but much worse on juice than any other motor ive had in recent years
