Most preserved vehicles are worthy efforts by their owners, but some are so good, they are almost indistinguishable from new. The quality of those restorations effortlessly takes the observer’s imagination back to the time when the vehicles were new. That is the goal of this thread- to show off those vehicles (Apologies to those who may consider armchair criticism of people’s work a bit crass- ordinarily, I find the “best in show” award stuff somewhat mean myself). These are some of my favourites, in no particular order:
The blue 143 indeed looks perfect. It is the details which excite me (again, I apologise for being a fusspot). This photo from the Leo Bol restoration I linked above sums it up:
The finish is perfect even in there, where 99% of show visitors will never see. I imagine the first owner of the vehicle opening the cab door for the first time and his eyes lighting up, as he thought, “I can keep my shoes, and possibly my overalls, in that cabinet.” (or, in GB, a bottle jack, some chains, a tyre lever, lumps of wood and a gallon of oil. Ropes in the wardrobe above, until it collapses onto the bunk). I bet the catch on the cabinet works with well-oiled precision.
Anorak thanks very much for the link ,that is quite some work put into that 140 cab , judging by the other cabs and full restorations they are masters of their craft
