My Romanian Experience

Got nothing to do with not wanting to. It’s none of your business.

Its a high value load so its not unusual to have it in black shrinkwrap.

As I stated it all sounds very dodgy. Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the fridges don’t even get turned on and are just a ruse.

Well that would meke me complicit in the whole thing then if its dodgy. We are carrying pharmacueticals which are kept at a temp of between 8 and 25 degrees but we also carry chilled pharmacueticals between 2c and 8c most of the stuff is not your normal over the counter grade medicine.

Glen…Stop rising to the bait. You know it, I know it.

Will Angie be doing another trip?

Nope

Will Angie be doing another trip?

After that fiasco, would anyone even contemplate giving her another go? Not wishing to appear harsh, but some seriously fundamental and costly errors were made.

Can see where you coming from on that 1 but have you read all the replies as I said I done my best with what I had & as I have said earlier yep I did make some mistakes but think there were mistakes on both sides

I have a EU map now from 2009 that has a nice motorway running all the way through Hungry right to Bucuresti that dont exist part of it is there then it stops

What would you have done in the same situation

Fair play to you, Romania is a difficult trip even with the right equipment, I can’t see where you have done anything wrong. It looks like somebody has tried to shaft you over the two missing boxes, but that has happened to me before and I nearly had to get into a fight over it, but there is no way that should be in the job description.

At least it was an experience and nobody can take that away from you.

Not making it sound any better to be fair.

The whole thing stinks, from the way in which the drivers are supposed to work to the clandestine nature of the “product”.

Let me guess…they only pay in cash?

Keep guessing Sherlock.

Well first of all, you ought to haver bought a map of Europe as soon as you realised you needed one. Most if not all garages sell them and accept € or plastic.

Then for you to drive from Bucharest to Germany empty without attempting to make a phone call from a payphone is
unbelievable, even as you say you had no Lei, you could quite easily have made a reverse charge call. You could have got a decent and safe hotel for approx. £20, and they would have even been able to sort a phone call for you.

As I said earlier you made some costly errors and it would surprise me if anyone would employ you if they were aware of this episode.

@glen58 don’t think it was a good idea to put on here what type of product you collect. Also linked to picture’s of the sort of vehicle’s you use and route’s you travel you have made yourself and your colleagues vulnerable. A lot of the speciality pharmaceuticals have a far greater value than any street drug and consequently a lucrative black market plus it is now out in the public domain. Take extra care guy’s :exclamation:

Actually, you haven’t explained why no attempt was made to use a Romanian phone and also why you didn’t bother to attempt to get a hotel where for £20 you could have parked and been perfectly safe and had use of a phone.

And no not Mr Perfect, but I expect my drivers to use their common sense, whereas it appears that you didn’t. Yes Romania has some very dodgy areas (as do many other EU countries) however Bucharest is a major city and has many many safe areas, had you even bothered to look.

Can’t help feeling that the company should have given her a phone that worked in Romania though, rather than expecting her to use her own.

Sort of regret replying with what i did but its done now.

From my interpretation of the diary Animal went on the trip with a 3-4 hour notice period! No maps provided or a mobile phone! And is a lady driver to boot! I would have thought the Boss would have shown a little more concern for the contact/safety aspect! :unamused:

Granted a reverse charge call would have been a better decision than driving to Germany! But sometimes in a “blond moment” you forget and do what comes to you without thinking it through first!!
I am concerned that the van she was driving was able to run away when the handbrake was applied!! :open_mouth:

I know this going to sound a bit " when I were a lad "! But - when I first went over the water, me & thousands more like me didn’t have a clue what a mobile phone was and had never been given a map by any employer I worked for either. Sorry if this sounds harsh animal but to drive from Bucharest to Germany would get you the sack from any company I have ever worked for. And no I’m not perfect either. But to blame the boss for your shortcomings is a bit much. Maps are and always have been easy to obtain. And phones are available in every country in Europe.
Personally I think you got scared and legged it. ( easiest option ). But then you were probably told one too many scare stories.

At the end of the day, she got home safe. The job got done the following week and that is that. Move on and forget it.

Turnip, the good old days of ringing in for instructions, was always the reply of find a cafe with a fax or ring in with the cafe number.
The job still got done by using coin phone boxes, bit of a pain with a list of 12 tile and ceramic collections.

Not disputing that. But “WE” never opened the thread in the first place.
