Not music we haven’t heard but Happy 80th birthday Bob
A bit of post punk ‘Indie rock’.
A one hit wonder from early 80s from a band called ‘Department S’ (named after a 70s tv show.)
Title ‘Is Vic there’…(a reference to a Monty Python sketch btw.)
A good ‘pop’ song and very much of it’s time.
Steve Millar Band, Fly Like an Eagle, 1976
Followed by
Steve Millar and Playing for Change, Fly Like an Eagle, 2025.
Wtf is that
A couple of dance floor fillers I heard on the radio today I had forgotten about.
May not be to some of your taste but good club music.
Starting with Rui Da Silva..‘Touch me’
Featuring a sample of Spandau Ballet (off a track who’s name escapes me…was it ‘Cant keep this pressure on’? )
Then a bit of old school type jazz mix.
Excellent for wedding night do’s to get the older relatives on the floor… ..so.a lot of ‘‘Dad Dancing’’ going on .
‘‘Pig Bag’’.
This is a club remix of the original 1980 track …yeah I know…you dont care.
I need to revive DJ Rob Dubbledex…make a comeback.
Or my favourite Marillion track…
Kayleigh…I used to sing it to a girl I once knew.
Never got me anywhere with her…maybe I should have whistled it.
The first two need the modern computer music beat brain implant, or brain damage depending on taste.
They sound best to me played and synched together at the same time for a laugh like setting one computerised racket against the other cancelling each other out.
The last one was an ok agreeable memory of the 80’s.
You need to open your mind CF mate.
Music can be good in any form, it aint all Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull.
I did a bit of DJ ing in the past, ( yeah I know, …I’ve mentioned it ) so my mind is open to most genres of music old and new.
I like Black Sabbath on the other hand I like a bit of KLF but even their stuff is 30 yrs old now ffs.
There is more to music than Cliff Richard mate.
As they say …''If the music is too loud, you’re to ****in old ’
.
I’ll wager he also hates auto changing cassettes too.
To be fair Rob did you try the suggestion of playing them both at the same time. It’s comedy, if still not music to my ears, gold.
Ahh so you’re a bit of a 70s Disco type guy CF.
In fact just found some footage of you in a Leatherhead disco in the 70s
Cool moves man I’m impressed.
So if we are ‘Back together again’’ on this and 70s disco is your thing…
What about a bit of Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack.
Or if ‘‘You change your mind’’..
What about a bit of Gladys Knight …
('Gladys looking quite hot at that time btw)
Or we could ‘Go round again’’ yeah let’s do that .
A bit of 80s ‘Average White Band’.
Or if thats too much of a ‘HASSLE’,…then lets Do the 'HUSSLE ’ instead.
Or finish off the night with a slow dance with the fit looking sort you have been eyeing all night
(Or ‘The Erection section’’ as I used to call it.)
A bit of Peaches & Herb…get yer coat darling, you’ve pulled. …
NOT talking to you btw Carryfast.
Sorry about the DJ cheesy links btw…I just can’t help myself.
Shabba.
Ok so you aint just a Disco Demon then…
‘Computer Music’.you say.
Maybe a bit of OMD ? or Gary Numan? both 80s pioneers of all that stuff.
Or maybe my favourite of that early version of that genre…this…
A bit of New Order.
WoW! Late to hearing this song by Lady GaGa, ‘Always remember us this way’
Had to get the guitar & bass parts down to play along to it last night, Not my usual music taste, but it’s such a good song.
Oh Aye…With all the (slight ) spat between us on the Trump thread crap, …I’d forgotten YOU are the guy who is the guitarist making vids…I was.(and still am) impressed with btw.
Maybe we can keep this thing seperate (but at same time carry on the ‘fun’ of the Trump spat )
If so as a fellow music lover (but with different political leanings ) I would look forward to seeing the vid with your mates.
So there’s the ‘olive branch’ mate, …so either receive it or snap it over my head.
Olive branch received & yes, the fun with trumper on the other thread will carry on . Being an old fart, I still love music & getting the guitars out from time to time to play along to songs. Lady GaGa though, what a voice.
