Despite her outlandish stage outfits etc I consider to be one of the finest female performers of this generation.
Tbh mate I have never took any notice of Lady Gaga,.I had her down as a latest flash in the pan type fad .
That ‘’ Bad Romance’’ track was all I had heard, which kinda put me off her
Anyhoo after hearing that track I see that she is in fact a good vocalist as you say.
Yes, like you the outlandish outfits & wigs seemed a bit weird to me & I never listened much to her songs, but this song came up in my YT feed by chance & this song she sang was just incredible. It will be an earworm for the rest of the week now.
I’d heard her sing a couple of times a Capella and thought how good her voice was and then I watched A Star is Born and was blown away by her voice and sheer presence.
Yes me too, I’m usually stuck in the 60s/70s music wise, but gems like this come up & you think Wow! There is still great music today.
Life & arthritis has got in the way with virtual bandmates, we’ve not done any songs in ages, I did suggest a few backing tracks & downloaded them (AC/DC ‘it’s a long way to the top’ & an updated backing track of Oasis ‘Hindu times’ but none has the time these days with jobs & moving houses etc.
I got rid of my amps years ago because I didn’t play out Live, they caused noise problems with family & neighbours & I just use software with floor pedals into the computer DAW these days with headphones.
I moved into our daughter’s bedroom when she left the nest many moons ago & it’s where I spend most of my evenings noodling.
I’m a bit different.
I know there is some good music from the 60s, Beatles, Stones, Who etc , but I find a lot of others just ‘‘I love you, you love me’’ type ‘‘pop pap’’ tbh
I was just a young child in the 60s maybe that is why.
And the 3 groups I mentioned did progress a lot to something better…especially The Beatles, who influenced the other 2, (and every other artist and band since in some way imo.)
I preferred the 70s music to 60s (although a lot of it was crap )
As for more modern stuff…yeah I’m open to a lot of it, apart from rap which I can’t stand.
Especially that stuff done by white Brit artists using that stupid bloody pseudo West Indian accent.like that Professor Green guy for instance…(oh Jeez I feel another racist accusation '‘against white people’' coming on again from Franglais.
You have a pretty impressive collection of guitars there mate..any valuable ones?
(Dont worry mate… I aint setting myself up to come and rob you.)
Agreed about the rap music, I never got into that stuff at all, I think it’s what you grew up with that forms your musical tastes. Thanks, most of the guitars are cheap & cheerful but play great, I don’t have any expensive ones, just went for quantity over quality to try out different models.
Quite a few of them are an in-house brand (Harley Benton) from the massive music site called Thomann in Germany, great guitars for the price & the P+P from Germany to my doorstep was just €8 back then & always arrived within 5 days, free returns too.
One of the nicest Harley Benton ones is an electric 12 string Rickenbacker knock offs which I bought for €250 for Beatles, Yardbyrds, Hollies, Led Zep songs etc.
Good to see Robroy and Lancapudn have kissed and made up. bit of Dan to celebrate.
Back to femail vocalists, Judy Collins has to be up there with Laura Branigan and July Covington.
I seem to be stuck in a time warp too.
Dont worry we’ll soon be back pulling each other to bits on the Trump thread anytime soon…eh LP?
It just proves that music is something that can bring people together in some way or another, and can override and supercede politics, differences , and attitudes as a calming feature …
Christ that was deep for ME !
(After saying that it would take one hell of a bloody special track or band to make me and Franglais new besties )
Btw I prefer the David Essex version (kind of ) of that…‘‘Oh what a circus’’
David Essex may just have been a good looking idol to young girls at the time, but underneath all that stuff, he was a good vocalist.
(Same story with Marti Pellow ex Wet wet wet. another ‘pop star’ who turned to classical musicals)
A bit of a change of tack. This was massive when I was an apprentice, it takes me back to days of oxy and overalls.
And before the sun comes up…
Another big one fro the day.
A couple of artists you should be familiar with, Robroy.
I doubt Piet ever got airplay, anywhere in Australia, on the radio.
Pussycats did, however.
Both infinitely more enjoyable than the clogwogs’ karaoke with a bottle of scotch and an iPod full of loud sounds in a strange language.
Some favourites of mine there brought back to jog fond memories. Collins, Covington, Baez and who was that beautiful lead of the Pussycats?
I also had fond memories of the people of Argentina, having been there and enjoyed their hospitality, but ruined by successive dictators, I had no doubts of rightness to liberate the Falklands but was so sad that it was necessary.
How about some local tunes, you really haven’t heard. For every AC/DC, Seekers or Bee Gees, ther were a hundred local bands making a living ftom music.
Perhaps similarly, having decided she was mainstream pop, I kinda ignored her. But then quite recently did watch the film and it opened my eyes.
Would it have helped if her name had been…Kayleigh!
Macca wrote one of the hardest songs to sing, I haven’t seen him sing this one ‘Oh Darling’ in ages, I doubt his voice could do it justice these days, but the Analogues, Beatles cover band got a singer who nails it to perfection.
Prefer these Bee Gees.
You’d also probably hear these played more often in the day everywhere from pub juke boxes to discos.
You’d lose your bet. They sound as good now as when they were new almost 40 years ago.The sound quality of those Maxell metal cassettes recording Satellite TV radio and early MTV through that AV amp was awesome.
A Motorola and Pye Auto Reverse deck was the default car audio choice for most of us during the 70’s.Before radio cassette decks became affordable.Unfortunately no way of playing cassettes in modern cars these days.

That’s where I went wrong.
