Movin-on Nolan Transport

Nolan have just expanded from nowhere, don’t know much about them or about their history, they are based in the Waterford/Wexford area which is long way down South.

The best haulier for me is Creggan Transport of Crossmaglen.

‘Expanded from nowhere’?! Are you serious? They’ve been Ireland’s biggest haulier for many years now

^ Luke is right, they have been huge for years.
Don’t know why you think they have just expanded.

I never see them much in my part of the Country (South Armagh, Louth, Monaghan) , and when I do see them I’ve never realised that they were such a large company. Being Ireland’s biggest haulier in my day, did not mean having a lot of vehicles, most of the companies (even the largest ones) were actually quite small, Pandoro did a large amount of the traffic in the South in my day and the old Northern Ireland Hauliers did not consider themselves Irish.

Fair enough. Well they had 10 years ago when I was there over 400 units and you can count the trailers in thousands

In my part of the world apart from the supermarket trolleys Nolans is about the most seen company on the motorway.

Got to agree with you there. I’ve run with a few of their lads over the years and not a bad word ever said.

I was at there yard while visiting a mate last year and their plant is all tidy and although some of it could tell a tale or two is well kept. Mind that town down the road is a strange place for an Englishman although with its history I’m not surprised.

They are a very friendly and professional bunch of people, it is amazing when you consider:-
1.) They are based in a war zone, an area which was the most militarised area in Western Europe.
2.) Most of the haulage in the North of Ireland was monopolised by hauliers of a different religion!
Regarding the little town down the road you must mean my beloved Crossmaglen, here you’ll find the friendliest people in the world when they like and trust you, yet these very same people can be the most lethal enemies. There are lots of good bars around Cardinal Ó Fiach Square, my favourite being Shorts. During the troubles I kept away preferring Dundalk or Castleblayney across the Border, the atmosphere is a lot better now in Crossmaglen however I would not recommend any British people visiting if they are not in the company of a trusted local, you should have been OK in the company of the Creggan Transport people.

True…It wasn’t called “Bandit Country” for nothing! :open_mouth:

I do not know anything about Nolan Transport but to be honest I see its trucks almost everyday on my way wherever I drive and most of its trailers are curtainside ones.
