if everyone managed quite happily before these dipstick wannabe adolfs were invented, then why on earth could they be of real use to anyone nowadays…jobsworths, plobbers,pc fannys.I( ID love to be a cop,but im a fanny,so il; waffle about all hi vizzed up and wallow in my self importance,so I can be a superhero and make some wifey clime 30 yards up a muddy embankment wearing the bin liner I gave her in the name of health and insanity safety,)…and back to the useless signs, the only sign ive ever seen on a motorway that was in anyway informative was when I was heading down the M5 last week,it was in a field and read… PICK YOUR OWN STRAWBERRIES.

So come on Jase, where’s the video you made? I’ve also asked you a question which you have so far not answered despite returning to this thread a couple of times.
How do you know the control have set a lane closed sign instead of a reduced speed limit - if you come across an incident and radio it in theres no way you know that the signs say what you’ve requested them to.
Aha, I do apologise, I missed your post. I couldn’t possibly show the video as it had too much information on that may incriminate me where I am from. The HA disapprove of forums and such so I need to be careful what I say as I know they look on here, and read all of your responses.
I know as many more trucks were moving over and by the pattern i.e there was nothing in lane 1 and a truck motoring along in 2 gives who then passed us and moved in, I waved, he waved back, and cctv confirmed they were set correctly as I asked.
The RCC repeat back what they have set and where i.e we are at 123/4 A so the RCC say over the radio “lead in 50 set at 119/5 and a lane 1 set at 121/4” so I know 4 km back there is a 50 and 2 km back is a lane 1 giving people plenty of time to move over. Before someone says “That’s set a long way back when you’re miles from the job, no wonder we ignore them”, you should know, trucks don’t decide to break down by signs so we need to make best of what we have.

Please don’t paint us all with the same brush, some of us are trying to make a difference, its like digging a hole in the sea some days.We managed perfectly fine without you lot for years, we can manage without you now, you’re not some kind of super hero, swooping down to rescue people, you cause more jams and “incidents” than you clear, bunch of wannabe coppers.
No worries, I’m not going to lower myself and be dragged down into a petty argument. I just hope and pray that you never need our help. We’re here to stay, patrolling the network that our employers are responsible for running, so get used to it.

I bet if you put it to an honest vote, then karmafuns opinion would win hands down. your lot are about as usefull as a chocolate teapot when alls said and done. you genuinely serve no purpose, and unfortunately as you say, similar to our usual immigration topics, then your here to stay like a cancer in our midst.just not required, not wanted, and completely without purpose except for keeping some bean counters in jobs…or am I wrong?

I won’t ever need your help as I don’t live in the UK I have however broken down on the motorway over there and managed perfectly well without your help before this job creation scheme came into being

As you don’t live in England, you can argue that you don’t have a say! You won’t be aware of why the traffic officer service was created and also that due to budget cuts by the police, we work together quite closely. We only close lanes as a last resort, not at the drop of a hat as some drivers allege.

I am aware, it was a job creation scheme so they could cut the police numbers and get unskilled, low paid people like yourselves to do the job the police used to do. Governments are good at that sort of thing, but if you think you make a difference you are sadly deluded, who closed lanes and wrapped people in silver foil before you lot came along? no one, we managed fine then and I’m sure the British public could manage without you now.
I don’t think there are are many other countries that have a system like this, and they seem to manage ok, the traffic doesn’t come to a standstill when someone gets a puncture
A lot of countries have traffic management organizations, the Welsh and the Dutch have similar patrols to ours as well as a number of other European countries. We’re certainly not low paid or unskilled. Could you pass our training in traffic management?

What training do you need to put on a hi vis and sit on a slipway waiting for someone to break down and then put out a few cones■■?
Traffic management is a totally different job to yours, you are just there to clean up afterwards, hence the womble moniker
The job is a lot more involved than that, you have to put out lane closures, full closures, there’s rearward relief to get trapped traffic off the motorway, there’s reverse flow to get emergency services to an incident the wrong way down the motorway, there are rolling road blocks for all manner of incidents, there is enhanced carriageway clearance to clear RTCs and breakdowns from live lanes, we are in the process of training to enable us to upright overturned vehicles. All these are done to get traffic moving faster, not slow it down. We also deal with spills to reopen lanes faster and deploy incident screens to deter rubber necking. So we do a lot more than you realise, we’re not just furry rubbish collectors.
BossHogg:

I think the clue is in the word “training”. You learn, like you learn to drive an HGV, or learn the skills needed for any other job. Does it take a special aptitude or need special skills that only you or the elite possess? Or can anybody apply, take the course and duly go forward into the job? The way you worded your reply (part of which I quoted) seems to suggest that you think you’re in a higher echelon of skills than perhaps an HGV driver is capable of achieving?
and your point is■■?

Not at all, I’ve got a bog standard education, we have officers from all walks of life, as long as you can fill in the competency based application form and get through the assessment, anyone can apply to do the job. Not everyone gets through the paper sift, but if you do, you get a crack at the assessment.
So why bring it up as a loaded statement in a confrontational post?
Personally I don’t have a problem with you lot, you are certainly “doing your job” although there is a certain part of history (Germany, 1933 - 1945) where this practise was shown to be flawed! Professionally though I think it’s a reactionary agency created to tick boxes and satisfy the modern, overwhelming need to (for want of a better phrase) cover the corporate arse when things go wrong on the highway. Can anybody show figures & statistics to say what improvements have been made in real terms that justify the millions of £s spent on the creation of Highways Agency? (And please don’t say that 1 life saved justifies any amount spent, people have, do and always will die on the roads, no matter what sort of net we try to throw around the “system”)
I’m not a statistician, I can’t get them facts and figures, I’m just a lowly traffic officer at the foot of the food chain. It wasn’t my intention to post a loaded statement, just trying to get my side over in a ham fisted way. The highways agency was in existence before the creation of the traffic officer service. That was formed in 1994, we came along 10 years later.
