MORTIMERS from the ashes

If you’re getting reimbursed for parking and he’s paying night out money on top of that I don’t think It’s too bad. Obviously if you were home most nights it wouldn’t be too clever.

malcolmj:
can i just say I went back yes for £68 a day so did 13 of his old drivers the work is clean & easy he pays £28 a night out and parking in uk and euroland it would be nice to earn £30 a day more i know, the trucks all have fridges so self catering keeps my cost down a bit, but having been in a couple of jobs local to me the jobs a doddle and it stops my misses finding me jobs to do around the garden every day after work a bonus
each to his own

I was on about that about a year ago but £8 less a night out at TDW also paid for being weekended so sounds about right money wise

68 quid a day is [zb]ing scandalous :unamused:

Fair play to those that are doing it rather than sitting on their arses, but come on, that sort of money was on the low side 20yrs ago FFS, it is taking the ■■■■

Unfortunately that’s the cost of running trucks these days, we have to compete with the ‘sandal & sock’ brigade, I went into Killingholm the other day & on my way out I was overtaken bt a Rumanian Volvo with 2 drivers on board pulling an Andreas Andresen fridge. I wonder how often those drivers go home & if they’re playing to the cabotage rules by pulling Danish trailers in the UK? & are they just doing trailer swaps @ the east coast ports?

Well done Malcomj. If 14 of you went back then it cant be that bad a job can it.I would but I cant do any more continental Ive got used to coming home every day and the wife still likes me.
You will probably find most of the critics on here earn much the same at the end of the year and are full of bluster.
At least youve got a job you enjoy.

Im Sorry
But im 63 years old and semi retired i was proud to be a lorrydriver and a Profesional
as well driving uk for 25 years and contenental for 16 years Continental work was bloody
hard work then (back in the eighties) we had to have proper hand cases for all the paperwork
we had to carry and !!! fill in.Nowdays the job is to easy no agro as such etc etc, but!!!
£68 per day ■■ we are in the year 2010 and yes i was earning that amount back then.
and i was on £17 nite out money, what happened to the rates ■■? ill tell you shall i ?
When we joined this common market was we, as a Country, entiltled to Transport
Subsidies ■■ No we wasnt, when Spain joined was they ■■ yes, they got absolute Millions
in Subsidies to buy all new Lorries and trailors,When they joined i saw empty wastelands
filled with hundreds of fridge trailors and units hence why overnight they were coming
over here with brand new equipment instead of there Tonka Toys they used to use.Just
before they joined i was a owner driver running london to almeria Southern Spain to london for £1850
when they all got there nice new toys (not costing them a Penny!!) they started to do
it for £1200 needless to say it was goodbye time to that job.Its the same now Poland,
Romania Bulgaria etc have all got nice brand new Tackle cos they joined th EU,Why
do you think that every 3rd lorry you see in this country is Polish ■■,you havent got to
be a Brain Surgeon to work this one out.Have you noticed you dont see many German,
Dutch,Swiss etc lorries in this country no more ■■ Reason ■■ Well ask yourself this what
is it we Import from Poland that needs these hundreds of there lorries everyday ? of
course Nothing, what they have done is nicked all the work from around Europe at cheap
rates, they pay there drivers peanuts (i know as i have 2 friends living in Poland as lorry
Drivers) they buy cheap Diesal as well.Thats why every third lorry on our Motorways is
Polish registered Try it yourself next time your on the road. And yes they are doing Return
Loads out of all the Docks to all parts of our country while they wait for a decent back load
out of England.I have a Friend who gives out loads in Tilbury Docks and he says every 4th
Vehicle is Foriegn Registered. This is Eddie Stobart all over again Remember what they done
to the small hauliers and owner drivers ? yep thats right they undercut rates big time.I know this
because i remember i was doing Tilbury to Manchester as a backload for £180,Stobart was doing
it for £140,they put a lot of my Friends against the wall back then.So there you are then after
all this yapping ive been doing ive gone a bit of course, what i will say to drivers who want to work
for these cut throat Hauliers is where is your pride ? think about what your job is and compare
it against other menial jobs like Teachers,Polititions, baggage handlers, etc etc etc would they
take a pay cut ??of course not,but you are suposed to be Profesional Drivers, who is an Ambasador
for your company with hundreds of rules to remember,£68 per day ■■? please dont do it,if your
good at your job (which you should be) then you should be paid the right money.
Ok i said my bit please forgive me if i went on a bit but its nice to get thing of your chest.
And i mean no Malice against any Foreign Drivers they are just doing there job, sorry about my
Spelling.

.

UK companies have gotta compete John and yes when i started driving in the 90’s i was on about the the same if not more money then I am now. Drivers nowadays have not got the chioce as to if they work for that money or not but thats about the going rate

Oh come on, the going rate is only caused by mostly the Drivers, they are, and was, there own worst enemy for as long as i can remember.A haulier will only put in a Quote once he knows how much he can get away with in the wage rates he is not stupid he knows if you wont work for him for £7 per hr then he can find lots of chiskingskies that will and dont forget a lot of them have only passed there test in there own countries. We are all to blame for the state of the Haulage industry we allowed the bosses and Governments to treat us the way the did then and now.At least back then we had Cafes to stop in and eat sleep and wash.Lorry drivers today are nothing but Gypsies (think about it) you have to ■■■■ and ■■■■ in a layby and sleep in it as well you are forced !! to eat and drink in it you are also forced to be a 24hr Security gaurd now you tell me who s fault is this, who let it get like this ? (i dont know how old you are but im 63) the fault lies with us !! for allowing it to happen. What other industry do you know that treat there workers like this ? i cant think of one,and its no good saying its to late now,do the Teachers and train drivers and baggage handlers say that ■■ No of course they dont they get there reps who are paid £150 000 a year to sit on there arse s all year except when its time to act,Now then what about this countrys so called transport Union who i know are on between £80 000 -£100 000 a year plus nice fully expensed car and nice fat Pension.Of course you have all got a choice get them of there fat arse s and fight for you or carry on being treated like a lump of Dirt !!! Do you know just how easy it can be if you want it to be just ask any french or german driver they will tell you.Like i say we are our own worst enemies and always will be because we are all Gutless to stand up to the Bosse s and Governments .

Couldn’t agree more - the job has gone to pot because WE the ‘professional drivers’ have allowed it to happen. I think that until the working driver finds some balls and self respect it will continue to get worse. If only we would stand together and take direct action (withdraw our labour) and refuse to work for nothing less than minimal, acceptable standards it will never again be a job of choice. Roll on retirement!

Ha Ha Ha im happy to say im retired now and do i miss it ■■?
No !!! i dont, why ? Comradship went out of the window long time ago
No one has any time for you anymore
and its all about Health and Safety now which 60% is ■■■■■■■■ !!
my last job there were 29 english drivers
when i left there were 3,need i say more
Its all about Drivers care more about there cabs than the job.
Good luck to all you new Drivers anyway,i dont miss it
Except all my mates i met while abroad for the last 13 years.

im working nights at the moment mon-fri and taking home roughly £330 a week , yes im well aware this is a shockingly poor wage for class 1 work but its a case of theres sod all else going in my area and it beats sitting on my arse claiming dole. if i lived near mortimers i would be very happy to earn £68 per day plus £28 night out money.
