MORTIMERS from the ashes

Toby is running the firm on his own now.No office staff. Thinks 10/12 is enough to be manageable.
4 brand new MAN’s arrived last week which are being held back until end April.Drivers will be needed.
Mon - Fri. Have heard £68 a day + nights out so said £480 take home. 6days (run in Sats) one week - 5 days next.Wants it all kept legal.
NO CHIPS INVOLVED!!

I prefer spuds anyway. Actually can this be merged with the other thread about them ? that way we will only have one chip spotting thread on the go.

i think toby is a member of this forum.
i’ll do it, but i don’t want any uk work, he can turn me at the docks.
and he will have to put the money up.
£480 isn’t a living wage.

i wouldnt say no to any work atm lol

Trying to get away from the Chip spotting and put some meat on the bones and let you all know there may be vacancies. You make your own choice about the wages but I would suspect with Tax credits and Tax relief being out of the UK plus the other more dubious bonuses we all know about then a reasonable recompense could be achieved for anyone without a job or wants to start Euro work.

Please dont continue the thread about how you wouldnt get out of bed for this money because some guys might and its unfair to slag them off. Times are tricky right now and weve all got to do what we can to provide.

A good job for someone definetly and take home about £2,000 every calendar month going on those figures, if I was single I’d apply as they are about an hours drive away.

Agreed Bald Bloke. Right on my doorstep but i worked there before and had 18 years on the continent with different Co’s and dont want it anymore. Miss it in a lot of ways but would miss my family more.

I thought that tax credits were put in place to help low income families

If driving a lorry abroad all week is now classed as a low income job then it isn’t worth a cup of cold ■■■■ :unamused:

The earnings threshold for tax credits has dropped massively this year as well so may not qualify for them.

About time the thresholds were slashed.

I’ve only had a C / C+E / ADR / CPC licence + Digicard for about a year with only a few weeks experience but have driven all over Europe towing my 7m caravan for years. I’ve driven to Spain, Italy and the south of France so many times over the years and would love the chance of doing it in a truck.Would be even better in a left hand drive. Years ago I did some driving work in transit vans in Germany, Holland and France and it was a right pain paying the tolls with a right ■■■■■■ etc.
I’m 39 years old and have been driving cars/vans since I passed my B test in 1990. Do you think I would be considered for the job??
I have tried to find out some into on what this company transports and to where?
Any thoughts or info Thanks

Rob Leeds

Just phone and ask, nothing ventured etc etc…

seriously,£68 per day :unamused: ,why should i as a tax payer subsidise this company’s low pay through the tax credit farce :imp:

Agreed, even though I will lose out (not by much admittedly). I am of the opinion that tax credits is the governments admission that the minimum wage is an absolute farce. Too many employers pay low as they know that tax credits will make it up.

I will also lose out but wholeheartedly agree.

saw one of them parked outside keystone in hemel hempstead yesterday…i had to look twice didn’t realise they had started up again, i say good luck to them, too many companies going under so if they can restart again it’s gonna be a job for somebody.

Saw 2 in Calais then 2 on the A1 southbound on wednesday morning !!

I have to say as a boss £68 is taking the mick, In a way you reap what you sow because for £68 quid a day are drivers going to be loyal ? my guess is no, secondly and god forbid :unamused: :unamused: a driver has an accident - there an old saying buy cheap by twice and it’s as true of drivers as well. So Mr Mortimer puts £150k of truck on the road plus whatever the value of the load is and trusts this to a someone who will be earning 20% lower than most pay well in time we wil be seeing another phoenix rise again !

can i just say I went back yes for £68 a day so did 13 of his old drivers the work is clean & easy he pays £28 a night out and parking in uk and euroland it would be nice to earn £30 a day more i know, the trucks all have fridges so self catering keeps my cost down a bit, but having been in a couple of jobs local to me the jobs a doddle and it stops my misses finding me jobs to do around the garden every day after work a bonus
each to his own
