MK1 & MK11 Atkinsons,a class on their own

moomooland:

In a fleet dominated by ERF this Atkinson Mark II 4x2 tractor unit was an unusual purchase by Scott’s of Oldham.
In fact it was the only Atkinson they bought due to a high demand for ERF lorries in 1969 and ERF being unable to supply a brand new vehicle

Hello moomooland , Barrats up at Delph had an assortment of unusual Atkinsons , i believe they had a viewline and a few 4 wheel rigids . Any photographs thank you Trevor

Hi Trevor,
The picture above is just one of almost 500 Barretts pictures which can be found in the superb J Barrett Haulage gallery HERE on Flickr
Regards Paul

240 will doubtless provide a lot more nfo. than I can, but from looking at the picture it looks like a Weightmaster chassis and it looks like it’s on 8-stud hubs too…

must be a bad counter

Why’s that Kenny?

Weightmasters were available with 8-stud hubs - there’s at least one in preservation.

Nah, There running V and W reg Daf 85’s now .But you don’t see them advertising for drivers very often round Scunthorpe so they must be doing something right.

Bassman

Evening all, from my experience, Thorpe`s are one of the old school, just get on and do a difficult job correctly.

They had a 60tonne payload King off me, and ran it in one of the works at Shefield, behind an ex ministry 6x4 SedAtk, daycab, locked in low range, carrying coils, but beautifully maintained.

It is a falasy of contemporary times that the only way to run is with “new” equipment, the best lorries are the ones that owe you nowt, and can be parked against the wall, if the job, or rate is no good!(which in hire and reward…is most of the time!!

Should be more Thorpe`s about, but most of the “proper” businesses are getting Malcolm, (Harrison), to sell them up, becoming a sad old job today…

Cheerio for now.
