Mark, I’ve been trying to work out what’s in the background from the reflection in your tank & I can’t see enough work it out!! So, red skelly trailer, you’ve been pulling a 45’ box with a white LD cab Actros!!! Does it have blue & red stripes??

ross, correct on the ld actros, if your thinking of borchard your close, i work for jmd in the dock, in the pics i have got a 20 ft box on but have the neck pulled out on the trailer as my electric suzy pops out from time to time with it closed up

Haha, well I had a 50/50 chance & I went the wrong way, spoze the red trailer should’ve given it away. I used to work for John when he only had 5 wagons & was based in Birkenhead & used to drive this;
In those days we used to do curtainsider work Mon, Tue & Wed, then ACL & OCL containers Wed, Thu & Friday with the odd ‘run’ in Saturday. (not to mention the odd flyer for OCL over the weekend, alledgedly 
)

John Rourke told me about the pic in the office, it’s the same truck but don’t know if it’s the same pic, if it is it’s been downloaded from this site cos I took it in 1984 at an army base near Tring & uploaded it to this site.

Knew you’d pop in !! I’m sure as Shuttle says you can get similar results using an acid like chemical. I know thats not practical for a lot of drivers to use and carry that stuff though so elbow grease is the most practical.
Not sure i agree with another poster above who says peek is not abrasive whereas solvo autosol is, peek must be abrasive to get that finish? As far as i know its impossible to wash off oxidisation without some form of abrasion whether its chemical or physical.
Good to see Devanny spoke to ya, he never muttered a word to me. To be honest the way he totters around i doubt he even knows where he is !!!

Hi Mike, mmmm, strange, John Rourke is about 5’ 6" (ish) very thin & smokes a lot, must be near 70 now & still drives for JMD, last saw him a couple of weeks ago in an MAN.
I used to DJ in Johns club in Seel St, Valentino’s for a short while, only did Thursdays as I was resident elsewhere Fri, Sat & Sundays which mixed with driving was hard on the old sleep patterns!! I don’t remember a doorman who used to drive tho, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t so, all those years ago & all the short nights sleep have taken their toll!!!

Yeah its true mate, as mad as it sounds, i thought i was going mad and getting the names wrong. One is O’Rourke and one is Rourke. Both are slim (or skinny like me !!) one has black hair (even now) and the other has a full head of mousey brown hair, both must be touching 70,or not far off and have both worked for him since the 1970’'s !!! I think it’ll be John Rourke who worked the door on his club for him, taking tickets, coats, payments etc… I remember going to John O’Rourke and asking him stuff and he looked at me like i was nuts, thats when i realised the closeness of the names !!

Quite possibly, when I left in 1986 the drivers where, Mick Killroy (must’ve been in his 60’s then & would only drive a day cab!!), John Rourke, Tommy Galagher, (went on to run his own business) Terry Room, Bobby McGuire (John Dev’s nephew who also now has his own business) & the odd casual jockeys like Tommy ‘the froth’ Fairclough. I could tell a few stories, but best not.
