Last night sat on bay looked at wagon next to me and his fuel tank was shining, on closer inspection it was like a mirror that highly polished, I was going to ask the driver how they get them like that (what polish they use etc and how long it takes - sad i know!) but there was a language difficulty - neither of us spoke English (he was eastern european and I’m from Barnsley) so how do they do get them fuel tanks that shiney?
depends on how bad the tank is to start off with
if it is bad, use an acid such as ali brite, then plenty of elbow grease and polish
different people prefer different polishes, Peek is a good polish, White Diamond is a very good polish
lots of solvol autosol and lots more elbow grease.
2 lads at our place polish their tanks, they are literally like mirrors. They use autosol, that stuff ain’t cheap, £7 for a toothpaste sized tube and when your polishing tanks with it, it don’t last long.
I use Autosol or Peek, then Meguirs Paste to get the final shine…
Expensive and time consuming but each to their own i say!
Some good TFR to remove the road grime, then lots of elbow grease and Autoglym Metal polish.
Brillo pads and plenty of water to start, the autosol with lots of elbow grease, then to finish I use maguires it a bit expensive £9 a tub but once the hard work is done I only use the maguires once a month to to keep the shine up so a tub lasts well over 12 months.
Got a life so couldn’t be arsed.
White diamond I use, mine is like a mirror !!
T cut
Id say to get the initial shine, after degreasing, you
d be better off using a buffing mop attached to a H/duty power drill and buffing soap, then finish with elbox grease
Stainless wrap.
paint it the same colour as the chassis, mines a nice stained brown colour at the moment
mines a mucky red with a large oily mark down the middle
oh an a few scratches and dints as well
Can’t see my fuel tank as it’s set behind the rear bumper and I have to open the radiator grille to refuel.
When on the lorries though, another driver spent FOUR HOURS on a Saturday (not paid) polishing his tank. It looked like mine by Monday lunchtime so why bother?
bacofoil.
ask the bloke at efs tilbury. saw him 1 night at orwell, in the dark doing his tank, and airlines
thought he was nuts, but had to admire his dedication.

Why?
What you do in your time is your choice, are you on other work when cleaning the inside of your cab?
Each to their own I say, I like the effect and look of a nice clean truck, but I personally couldn’t be arsed, the inside however is usually nice and clean, that’s the bit I see.

If you aren’t you should be due to the fact it IS…" other work" pedantic and daft, but law!

so, everyone who goes to shows such as Truckfest, if they are polishing all weekend, they should be on ‘other work’?
if that is the case, why have VOSA never stopped anyone and prosecuted them for tacho infringements?
surely, they would be easy targets, all parked up in the same field, all they would have to do is stop them on the way out
