bacofoil.

ask the bloke at efs tilbury. saw him 1 night at orwell, in the dark doing his tank, and airlines :open_mouth:
thought he was nuts, but had to admire his dedication.

hope his tacho was on other work :unamused:  :open_mouth:

Why?

What you do in your time is your choice, are you on other work when cleaning the inside of your cab?
.

If you aren’t you should be due to the fact it IS…" other work" pedantic and daft, but law!

so, everyone who goes to shows such as Truckfest, if they are polishing all weekend, they should be on ā€˜other work’?

if that is the case, why have VOSA never stopped anyone and prosecuted them for tacho infringements?

 surely, they would be easy targets, all parked up in the same field, all they would have to do is stop them on the way out :unamused:

Wasn’t trying to justify it bud, and certainally not agreeing with it, but the young boy :unamused: who was telling me how to do my job  on my DCPC session told me this,…so who was I to argue. Seriously though, I am nearly sure it’s correct but anybody who has more interest in VOSA regs than me will tell us.

According to the European Union (EU) drivers’ hours rules, a ā€˜rest’ is an uninterrupted period where you may do what you like. Time that is spent working for yourself or others, no matter what the occupation, cannot be counted as rest. Time that you spend learning or doing something under obligation is also not counted as rest.

you just need to define ā€œworkā€ now

i sometimes send the wife out to wax the car on a sunday. my choice, in her time, other work?

Depends how bad your tanks are to start with, mine are like mirrors, start with orbital sander, paper grade 240, get all pit marks and scrathes out, then 320, remove scrathces 240 have put in, then 500 to remove sctatches from 320, then electric buffer with polishing compound, 4 different buffers with 2 compounds, very hard work but end product is worth it, peek will keep shine once uve got it, keep away from tfm, it stains them if left on too long, fairy liquid and water is best

Spot on mate…all above only needed if really bad or older tank and never been regularly polished though.

If a newer tank/truck just keep using the Brasso and plenty of clean cloths…paper-type towel better to get there faster. Peak good I agree but also more expensive than my favourite - Brasso (buy it in the supermarket but shop around…price varies a lot for some reason).

TFR bad news for shiny bits, stains badly.

I used to find ā€œpressure washer when I can be arsedā€ was the best.

Mine were bad, never been polished, takes alot of hard work, when u get the desired effect peek is best, autosol is to abrasive, scratches them, just need to be carefull, do little bits at a time, but worth it when you get people coming up looking at ur truck saying wow how do u do that

So, providing that you are not instructed or obligated to polish the tank, wheels or whatever, you are doing what you wish in your spare/free time. Therefore how can that be counted as other work.

If keeping a lorry ā€˜minted up’ is your thing, then it is no different to trainspotting, fishing, drinking or driving an ambulance for the Red Cross. A hobby is a hobby. You are free to spend your spare time as you wish.

They have, a mate of mine works for Richard King (he’s on here but doesn’t post) and one of their drivers was sat on Hartshead Moor, sat in the passenger seat drinking a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee from the coffee maker Richard thoughtfully had fitted into his 22 spotlight kitted Scania R620. VOSA man walks past one way, some time later walks past the other way, both times says nowt to the RK driver, on his 3rd passing the driver (still sipping his hot coffee) had his window down & was spraying his mirrors with Windowline (other cleaning products are avail’ I use Mr Muscle) when the VOSTAPPO agent asked ā€œcan I check your tachoā€?

He got nicked for ā€˜mode switch violation’!!! (or something like that)

From what my mate told me Richard is (or was) taking it to court, I’ll speak to him tomorrow for an update.

Ross.

Of course I could have made all the above up :smiling_imp: Some people on here are hilarious :sunglasses:

Why do you have to have a pop at someone who likes to polish, pray tell, what do you do with your spare time, please let me know, so i can berate you on a public forum. :frowning: :frowning:

Hiya there,s a product called aluproud. it smells like bresso (remember that) any how this stuff is second to none.
there,s not all that hard rubbing like solvo autosol. the product is quite expensive at £8 for 250ml but its a must.
when you,ve shined up your tank, this aluproud will shine for 6 to 8 months without going dull…well thats if you don,t
put TFR on it.i did a 3inch area on a aly sideboard and it still shins quite brite after 3 years.
to buy this stuff you need to dial up www.aluproud.co.uk
the company who make it is in the worcester area.
if your reading a map while on break can you still get a techo vilationā– ā– ? maybe i ,ll give the driving on a tacho a
miss with these new laws.i still have a log book and manage quite well.
John

Lucas oil is very good.

If someome has nothing else to do on their days off than polish diesel tanks then that’s upto them. It’s when people like me drive their vehicles and we’re expected to ā€œleave as we findā€, meaning ā€œclean it the same as I doā€ā€¦not a hope in hells chance,it’ll get a quick wash off, dashboard wiped, cab floor swept and windows cleaned and that’s it. This will all be done in companies’ time and I will be paid for it or it wont get touched. 5pm finish too.
