hi i came across 2 trucks this morning from the same company at 4am traveling at 35mph on the m4,i was being overtaken so had to drop back which is why i know there speed, how stupid is this sort of driving just to drag your hours out if your hourly paid, its no wonder so many hgv drivers are killed runing into the back of other hgv,s if you get morons like this on the motorways, when i got up the side of him he had both elbows on the wheel holding his chin!!!Thats absolutely diabolical behaviour. If they’ve to spin their hours out why don’t they park up somewhere and stick it on POA ? Tossers, and they wonder about road rage

No can do! Isotrack means the only way of stringing it out is to drive very slowly.
Don’t see the problem at 4am.
Big problem at 4am, less traffic, which normally means its travelling faster, before you know, someone has come up behind said vehciles and ploughed into the back of it…

Santa:
It didn’t mean a minimum speed though - you just had to be capable of that speed.
That’s not a real sign is it? I thought metric road signs are illegal.
Looks like an Irish one

Let’s see now Rambo, imagine you’re travelling at 16 mph at 4am so it’s dark and you know how hard that makes driving. You’re on a long straight road and although it’s dark you can see for at least a mile let’s say. How long does it take you to catch up and crash into that stationary truck with his lights on a mile ahead?

No minimum speed limit but you can get nicked for going too slow.news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/7171154.stm
Is there not some law about a vehicle must be capable of at least 25/30 mph to use a motorway, or am I imagining it?
Im sure that when I went for my HGV test, it had to be in a vehicle capable of doing at least 40mph.
Does not seem like there is a minimum speed.
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/7171154.stm
Anyone travelling at less than close to maximum speed unless traffic dictates otherwise should not be on a motorway, simple as that…
Motorways were designed and built to be the fastest way to travel between two points
Nobody should be close enough to run into the back of someone, but some idiot creating a rolling roadblock is not exactly helping matters are they
I vote for the return of some good old fashioned road rage, a bout of fisticuffs by the side of the road and a lot of frustration with your fellow drivers would be removed from day to day driving, such a shame we live in a world full of people who want to see you locked up for that kind of instinctive behaviour
I don’t understand how a minimum speed can be maintained on a motorway when e.g. traffic in all lanes is stationary. As for the woman in the BBC link, she was banned from driving for 7 days and yet had to take another driving test. How was she allowed to drive again when she was clearly an accident in waiting, with little chance of passing a test? Someone at work was behind her once, and as well as the signs in the rear of her car, he mentioned that if he got within a few car lengths of her she would keep braking to force him to maintain a ridiculously larger than normal distance between them.

But when driving so slow when there is no congestion or hold ups? Why when the whole point of a motorway is that you are able to travel at higher speeds. Stick to the A or B roads if you don’t want to drive fast IMO. Granted as a driver you should be able to spot something travelling slowly and not run into the back of it, how many of us have nearly done just that because you were not expecting it?
Used to join the M67 from Hyde towards Glossop in a double deck bus to go and pick the little angels up and take them to school.
I’d be lucky if I saw the correct side of 25mph before coming to a stop again towards the top of the hill.
I do hate having to overtake anyone on the motorway when I run around 50mph most of the time, but that’s why I like having a bit left in the tank, can see when I’m approaching, check middle lane and use extra few mph when required to get past without too much of a hold up. Not so easy when you’re restricted to 52mph mind…
I had a car pass me the other day when I was running around 52mph, he pulled infront of me, then I’m closing on him, noticed a spacesaver wheel on his n/s/r, so understood why he was going slow, went past him only for him to come past again
As Coffee states, in general there is no minimum speed limit, but in the OP’s case I would agree that 35 MPH seems excessively slow. Indeed it may constitute “driving in a way that falls below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver”, i.e. without due care and attention and as also stated by Coffee, their driving might be considered as an offence (in legal terms). However, there is nothing to prevent someone else easily overtaking, (eventually if you are being overtaken). Then again if one doesn’t notice creeping up on a vehicle doing 35MPH, how is e.g. a broken-down vehicle going to be noticed? (As has also been pointed out before).
what happened to the " not making progress " rule ?
didnt that apply during the driving tests ? and on lesser roads aswell .
Just checked up (exciting Saturday night!) and under schedule 4 section 17 of the Highways Act 1980, it would seem for motorways (at least) as well as ensuring all wheels have pneumatic tyres and that a vehicle is not controlled by a pedestrian (!), “in the case of a motor vehicle, that it is so constructed as to be capable of attaining a speed of 25 miles per hour on the level under its own power, when unladen and not drawing a trailer”. So when laden or uphill, speeds less than 25 MPH would appear to be tolerated in law. Presumably, very large loads which cannot make that speed even on the flat are OK then, though they would of course have other precautions.
As per usual Conor talks out of his arse again, most lorries were not capable of reaching 50mph especially on the M62, even if they went down the other side at 70+
There are very few minimum speed limits in the UK. I think the Dartford Tunnel has one, and maybe the A38M. This housing estate in Scotland has a 30mph minimum limit, but also has a 30mph maximum limit as denoted by the street lights.
And just because some numpty at David Wilson Homes ordered the wrong signs
