Mercedes new ugly truck

Fire in a multi storey car at Luton airport after an explosion.
They are blaming a diesel car…because we ALL know diesel cars (that are now coincidentally the pariah of cars ) have always been prone to exploding for no reason…where as modern electric cars are not, and it would do no good to the campaign to have negative publicity.
Draw your own conclusions.

Brilliant those fire investigators.
Despite hundreds of cars fireballed and the car park itself collapsing (due no doubt to the intense heat a Diesel car burns at :unamused: ), almost before the fire is out they’ve sifted the wreckage and determined this years enemy of the agenda is to blame.
Nothing to see here move along now.

Yep high profile fire, with lots of publicity.
So my cynicism tells me that no doubt that hand picked fire investigator was briefed by maybe even a government official,?
To present a double whammy report with a positive spin.to the gullible public.
That being zero adverse publicity for the electric cars,.but at the same time the clever bit, …blame a diesel. :sunglasses:
A classic feed the public b/s scenario, knowing that many will readily swallow it.
Brilliant politics eh?

No doubt to get the range they say either have be running the unit without a trailer.
Or with a trailer of bogrolls .
Driving like Miss daisy on a flat road avoiding any kind of hills

I’m not sure I’d feel safe sleeping in the [zb] thing.

Nah deffo not kipping in summet like that. :open_mouth:

Read the comments…one of them says…
‘‘I’m particularly impressed by the lack of emissions in that fire’’ …class

Lack of emissions? Jesus wept they couldn’t be much worse.

The only place to be when one goes up is as far upwind of the diabolical bloody thing as your legs can carry you.

Someone took a pic of the vehicle (Land Rover) as it approached the upper floors.

Got to love the 500 or so comments from the dailyfail saying it was a BEV before this pic surfaced.

Now they’re saying…

  1. A cover up because it was an EV.
  2. The Landriver picture is photoshopped
  3. Diesel’s are not able to catch fire because if you throw a lit match at diesel on the floor it wont catch on fire.
  4. Its Hamas (yes there are a fair number assigning them the blame).
  5. It was deliberately started to stop flights taking place to reduce their CO2 emissions.

The opposite side are now saying

ICE vehicles should be subject to the following.

Banning them from high-concentration areas like car parks or ships due to the fire risks (unless emptied of fuel), or at least segregating them from lower risk vehicles like EVs.
Adding explicit fire safety checks to the MOT test (unless these already exist?).
Mandatory fitting of automatic under-bonnet fire suppression systems.
Increasing insurance premiums on ICE vehicles to reflect the full cost of events like this. :grimacing:

IF the pic of the RangeRover is kosher, then it could be of several designs apparently, Diesel, Petrol, a hybrid of one or the other where the hybrid battery resides around the passenger footwell area :bulb:
Not sure if RR’s have full battery only power yet, not a vehicle or propulsion system i’d spend any of my money on so haven’t researched.
My guess is the vehicle in the pic is a hybrid and the fiu=re has reached the lithium battery hence its rapid ferocity, but that’s pure supposition and happy to be wrong as usual.

I suspect we’re all going to share in rapidly increasing insurance premiums as the seriously high costs of repairing, and ease of writing off, battery cars increases with their numbers.

Going to…

Two years ago my trusty little steed cost me £165 fully comp for 8000 miles. This year despite my best efforts and no claims or points, it was £376. I messed around with quotes last month cos I was bored (despite the renewal not due until January, I know that top loads things) and got, wait for it, £1142.

I’m currently looking into selling a kidney or going TPO.

You need to change insurers mate! Quote me happy, Merc SLK 320 9 years NCB, clean license, 8000 miles PA £185 fully comp.

John Cadoggan has done a video about the Luton fire, worth a watch.

Insurance wise, our lot all come due in January, whilst they’ve (up to now) been very reasonable despite highish group cars i too am not looking forward to the next round, fortunately the area we live in has so far been good.

Someone got the personalised number plate & put it through the MOT site. 2014 Range Rover Sport diesel.

‘Ahh this is where my claim falls to the ground’'.

Still not having an electric truck though.

I think, eventually,we will like these electric vehicles. You always read in the news how they have found new ways to make batteries more powerful and more kind to the envoirement.
The best diesel trucks available today, still half the energy is wasted as heat .The drivers of the future will look back at diesels and will be glad not to have to use them,I think

I wonder how your children, who you mention here regularly, feel about that statement.

You wouldn’t be frying, you would be well and truly obliterated if all that energy was discharged in one go…

Yeah ok, but a quick death over a painful death is still a death, …you still.aint convincing me they are a better option to a diesel.

Never go for a job as a sales rep if that is an indication and example of your technique. . :bulb:

Is wind a finite resource? Discuss…

PS, I’ve just chatGPTd it, so I know the answer.

I don’t think so. I’ve never had a shortage.

Have you ever looked out of the window when you fly over the English Channel? There are all these wind turbines and they seem to be just floating in the sea halfway between Dover and Calais…
I think,if they can find a way of producing these big batteries, nucleur power could play a big part. With all the issues about nucleur waste,at least it doesn’t pollute the air.

It will have to be a hugely powerful but tiny battery to power something like I drive-there is literally no chassis space on either side due to the hydraulic tank and crane legs etc.
I’m quite happy with my diesel powered Scania.
I think drivers of the future will look back and wish they had a big diesel engine-they’re great.
