Merc Sprinter help!

I,ve got one on hire for the weekend can anyone tell me where the steering column adjustment is if there is one ■■?..

Got the ■■■■ steering wheel between my knees   .

If it’s like the one I drive, it doesn’t adjust and you will probably find that the seat won’t go back very far either.

I sometimes struggle and I’m only 5’10". If I remember correctly Jammy, you are a bit taller!

Cheers KV i thought i was going mad when i couldnt find any adjustment

I,ve got to drive to Scotland tomorrow in something thats more uncomfortable than a Sca"R"nia P cab :frowning::(:(:(…

The one consolation is that you won’t be limited to 56mph

But he will be limited to straight roads, no chance of turning the wheel with his knees in the way.

The bad news is im going straight up the A1as i have to pick up family in the North East , i wonder if the cameras pick up large vehicles doing over 50 on the single carriageways■■?..

Its a mini bus so i have to stick to 50 occasionally ;);););)…

They hate going round corners anyway, like their cars they’re sloppy bloody things!

You can drop the seat height right down which might help a bit.

Personally i dont think the ones with the stupid dash mounted gearstick are all that comfy.

merc sprinter the quickest way to points on your license

in the days of old the boss took one out and couldnt understand why ever one was going so slow…having looked at the speedo nudging 100 MPH…he sent them all to to MERC to have limiters set at 80 MPH

Sprinter by name and Sprinter by Nature!

Agree with Dennis though - they are not very comfortable.

The older shape ones (with the same interior as the current VW LT) are ok. But the new ones the positioning is all wrong, to get the seat comfy you cant reach that stupid gearstick and the wheel is in the wrong position.

The dash gearshif makes your arm ache too as it’s so bloody heavy.

Those speed cameras DO know the difference between cars n trucks Jammymutt. I know, the NIP arrived today :frowning: :frowning: . Another 3 points  on my licence.

Nearly 30 years without anything, then get done twice in a year.

Probably be too late but if not, remember that the speed limit for a van on an A road dual carriage way is 60, not 70 as in a car and 50 on a single carriage way road. Plenty of van drivers will dismiss this, but thats the highway code. The only vans that are subject to car speed limits are car derived vans, which Sprinters aren’t.

I’ve a 313 cdi MWB, [zb] throttle at terrible angle, get a pain in my leg after about 1 hour driving, same craic with gear lever and steering wheel, have to stretch for everything, looked at changing the angle or something on the throttle, has anyone made any alterations to make these any better, can’t fault them mechanically though, regular serviceing and thats it. 130,000 miles and flying.

If it needs a space in to get it past the word censor, it’s not allowed. L.

[zb] throttle at terrible angle

I think this is because they’re so pokey you can hold the throttle at a comfortable level, you have to just be touching it all the time, i mean 70mph is only just halfway down to the floor!

Not disputing this, it’s the law. But take a Ford Transit for example, not car derived? The Ford Toureno is technically an MPV and so a car, which makes the transit car derived!
:open_mouth:

Ford Transit Connect is in fords own advertising “a completely new commercial vehicle built from the ground up” so that’s not car derived!

Is the Renault Kangoo car derived as it shares little other than an engine with the Clio!

Mitsubishi L200 pickup, is that car derived?

The law was pretty clear when the law was first set out. I mean You had ■■■■■■ vans, just a ford ■■■■■■ front with a van back end, Maestro vans were the same. Mini Vans etc etc

But take a Ford Transit for example, not car derived? The Ford Toureno is technically an MPV and so a car, which makes the transit car derived!

The Transit came out over 40 years ago. I don’t think it was derived from any car but designed from scratch.

but the current Transit came out in 2001 and shares no common parts with the 60’s original except maybe the pedal rubbers.

The Tourneo is identical to the Transit except it’s a car, in the same way the Astra Estate is the car version of the Astra Van.

I think the Transit/Touneo arguement would stand up in court. On the same grounds they could do you for speeding in a Transit Connect on the grounds it’s not car derived, even though it’s a clearly the replacement for the ■■■■■■ van.

The transit tourneo is just a posh version of the transit minibus which is just a transit with rear seats so basicly the tourneo is just a van

Also the the tourneo was around before all this mpv crap was even dreamt up

simon

You can buy an ■■■■■■ or astra in car or van version but there is no such thing as a transit car, therefore it’s not considered car derived although I understand the logic as from a design point of view I suppose it is.

Mercedes Van’s are build in East-London Southafrica, and not made for British Drivers

I got back yesterday after a 6 hour each way drive from Newark to Kinross via Yarm and the bus was ok just one or 2 little gripes.

The steering column really needs to be adjustable, it was a colun change gearstick the only problem i had was nowhere to put my left hand when i was driving, it would not go anywhere near 80 but i guess it was probably restricted by the hire company, and it catches the wind far too much we checked for low tyres a few times but it was the wind.:frowning::(:frowning:

My thighs are in severe cramp today but probably beacuse my truck is automatic and has cruise control which i use as often as possible so me legs have had a bit of a work out they are not used to.

It cost £100 in diesel to do 640 miles that seems ok to me considering there was 14 people and luggage in it i have no idea how many gallons it was so i cant work out the mpg.
