manston,kent

just read in the paper that manston airport in kent has closed for good,if that is true then there is plenty of development land there depending on who owns it,would not be a bad idea to use some of the land to put the new truckstop for kent there, quite a fair way from dover but beggars cant be choosers,it would be out of the way of most residents easy accsess from the M2 motorway, maybe it could work maybe not but they do need a truckstop in kent, what do other drivers think

sounds like common sense to me. it will never happen

Maybe email the owner of the Hollies in Cannock. He plans to build more truckstops.

you never know, members of the council may be bribed with a few backhanders[LOL]

I live in manston , they have it marked for 12,000 houses , I’m interested to know where all the jobs are going to be created for the amount of people that will be living there ,there’s no work in this area for the amount of people living here now .

I really can’t see these houses being built, as you say there is no employment on the Planet Thanet as it is. Plus, the whole housing bubble is about to burst in the most spectacular way, the only question is whether Dave can keep the plates spinning until the election next year, and that’s looking increasingly unlikely.

I just can’t work out why they are talking about a new London Airport in various sites, when Manston is staring them in the face. Longest runway in the country, such good ground support that Concorde used to be serviced there- I used to watch it coming in over Ramsgate, just a few hundred feet over my back garden, the highest speed railway in the country passing just a few miles away…

Most of these developments just create one thing, commuters.

The question I always ask is why, with the technology we have, do people have to spend hours travelling to do an office job that could probably be done a lot closer to home?

kent cc have already confirmed they are to build 3 or 4 truck parking areas in kent

No truck stop on there as far as we know, but then the council are very good at telling porky’s , as there is no ferries out of ramsgate anymore I would have thought it wouldn’t get the business,

I cant remember where they said they was going to be but none down there . im surprised Manston is not on the extra runway for London lists as its one of the longest runways in the UK and only about 10 miles from the one they are talking about in the estuary

Who’s gonna bribe them? - The countryside alliance? - Friends of the Earth? - Or some local cyclists?

It won’t be us, 'cos we’ve not got a pot to ■■■■ in. :imp:

east mids airport runway is longer :sunglasses:

So are Stansted, Heathrow and Gatters. They’re all north of 3000m except 26R/08L at Gatwick which isn’t really used. land prices won. Shame. Many moons ago I was based there for a bit on CNIS for the coastguard. Fun times. Big hangovers from the local boozer

I agree about using manston in their urge to increase capacity, They’re idiots not to support it’s development. Locals are used to heavies flying in and out. It’s already an airport etc etc. it’s far away enough from the London mains to ease congestion with approaches. The plans for the estuary stuff would make the already overloaded systems creak at the seams. Without the government backing they were left with an American buyer who wanted to keep the airport as an airport or the real estate value. You can guess which is worth more!

east mids is nearly half a k shorter than Manston at 2283m to 2748

East Mids take off distance available is circa 3200 with a landing distance of 2700 . They’ve added bits to East Mids over the years, like a lot of them.

It’s a disgrace what’s going on at Manston, it’s a golden opportunity staring these people in the face and they still can’t/don’t want to see it. I don’t think it’s over yet though.
Heard on the news Lydd has got the go ahead for expansion :unamused:

Waddy640,you raised an interesting point about traveling when there is technology to have video conferencing and Skype.
I have asked myself, on congested motorways and the cars all have one occupant, just the driver.
You do wonder where they are all going and why,and is their long journey really neccesary?

Do you know who owns Manston ■■

A Certain Anne Gloag. she Formally of the stagecoach empire. Her brother Brian Souter and her went there separate ways. Now Anne is not stupid i bet something is planned already for manston. And she wont lose a penny that’s for sure.
