Wing and a prayer:
Do you know who owns Manston ■■

A Certain Anne Gloag. she Formally of the stagecoach empire. Her brother Brian Souter and her went there separate ways. Now Anne is not stupid i bet something is planned already for manston. And she wont lose a penny that’s for sure.

she only paid a pound for it

Is it Manston where there is a small Spitfire memorial and museum? I came across it when totally lost about 10 years ago looking for an adress that turned out to be in the centre of Margate. It was closed, but looked very interesting.

Yes it is, and it is a small but fascinating museum. We were there just a few months ago.

As well as the Spitfire and Hurricane there are numerous other WW2 artefacts. Most moving for me is a framed letter dated sometime in 1943 which starts “Dear Mrs Johnson, it is with the deepest regret that I advise you that your son…”

There’s also the RAF Manston History Museum just across the car park.

Both well worth a visit if you are ever in the area, and almost certain to be unaffected by any future commercial use of the airport.

I think the RAF still own a chunk of Manston?

I live in manston , they have it marked for 12,000 houses , I’m interested to know where all the jobs are going to be created for the amount of people that will be living there ,there’s no work in this area for the amount of people living here now .

I really can’t see these houses being built, as you say there is no employment on the Planet Thanet as it is. Plus, the whole housing bubble is about to burst in the most spectacular way, the only question is whether Dave can keep the plates spinning until the election next year, and that’s looking increasingly unlikely.

I just can’t work out why they are talking about a new London Airport in various sites, when Manston is staring them in the face. Longest runway in the country, such good ground support that Concorde used to be serviced there- I used to watch it coming in over Ramsgate, just a few hundred feet over my back garden, the highest speed railway in the country passing just a few miles away…

a very good point

It is also 1 of only 4 border inspection posts for importing animals! A new building built late last year at great expense!
