Iv’e been an enthusiast of Mack trucks since about the year dot especially ones from the fifties onwards like the R, B and F models etc, and am allways on the lookout of any at whatever shows I get the chance to visit during the summer, I used to see a few on the road going about their work years ago but sadly they’ve become a very rare sight indeed now.
I’d like to ask if any members out there either owns one or knows where there are any,as i’m trying to locate some who’s owners are planing to take to any shows this year or if any one has one that they wouldn’t mind me coming to see, i’m pretty sure that there are more out there than i think, it’s just a matter of where ?.
this months Truck and Driver magazine has a few pages on Mack trucks. Might be worth a look and try and get in contact with whomever wrote the article?
Why do you sometimes see renault magnums with mack on the front?

Thanks, i’ll look out for the article in the mag, a good place to start anyway.
Re the badge on the magnums, they’ve got the Mack v8 magnum motor in them because of Mack having being owned by RVI at one time.

I’ve always thought that was a bit of a lipstick on a pig scenario myself
Like the OP I love old Macks, the B-61 being my favourite.
Found this old beauty when wifey and I were in Ontario in 2007;
i maybe wrong but while i was job hunting while i called into dp firth in oldham and noticed what seemed like a mac truck but i only seen it from the back
Magnums are sold as MACK’s in Australia (or were at least) hence the Mack badge on the front.
Thanks for the offer of the mag Banbury dan, but i’m getting a copy once a mate’s finished with his.
Hi Gnasty gnome, I’ve seen your photo of the B series before when looking for info on mack’s on here, what a sight for sore eyes she is!!!, if you ever get over west in Canada look up the teamsters museum in Port coquitlam, it’s not far from Vancouver, it’s not a huge place but they’ve packed a lot into it and there’s a lovley EH model there amongst some other great old trucks and other transport related stuff, I just hope it’s still there it was 4 years ago when I was there.
If anyone’s got any more pics they could put on here it would be good to see them.

and the funniest part of it now is that all the macks coming out here have volvo running gear in them
Were any of the six pot motors anything to do with Mack, or was it only the 500/520 V8s that came in the early models?.
Remember Ralph Davies had Mack on the front of the 420s.
WH Malcolm have a Mack recovery truck.

Hi NB12, it was only the big Mack V8’s that renault used in the magnums and the straight 6’s were renault’s own, but I do know that the power ratings did vary from 420 to 525 in the V8.
Hi Jimbo47, your’e an ex pat i take it?, lucky you, you’re in the right place there mate things pretty grim here, agree with you about it being a waste of a good badge, renaults not fit to make a mud flap for a Mack LOL, I went on a job hunt in Canada myself in the late 80’s 2 years on the trot, but no luck as things were’nt looking too good there at that time, of course that was before the oil boom, things are very different now, the last time I was there 4 years ago it looked like a different country, new roads, new towns, high profile trucking companies running fleets of thousands of trucks, work going on everywhere which was great to see, I went around the Mack plant when they had a factory in Oakville allong side the QEW long since closed down sadly, what a great day I had, never to be forgotten, I was like a kid in a toy shop didn’t know where to look next, it was at the time that they launched the CH but were still producing the mk2 superliners and R models, there they all were lined up on the park brand new WOW!!!, happy days.
All the best Jimbo, take care.

6 cylinder MACK E Tech motors fitted when the MACK V8 and RENAULT 6 cylinder engines were dropped - Prototypes on P reg - Production models on R reg - MACK motors dropped altogether in 2005 when to Dxi 12 Litre was fitted
The V8 was 500 bhp then 520 and finally 560 - Any more increase was limited by the rest of the transmission.
