Its actually just short of 3 miles longer to use the toll than the M6
No, there is just over half a mile in it. You can test this using any Satnav, online route planner (e.g. AA or Michelin websites), Google Maps etc. Plot a route from anywhere on the M6 South of J3 to anywhere North of J12, and the difference is always 0.6 miles for routes using the M6 as opposed to the M6 Toll.

Well my speedo and watch must be wrong then as on night trunk it always shows just under 3 miles less when i use the M6 and is 5 minutes quicker than the toll.
Work that out.
Went on it sunday morning very early cost of over 8 quid or more just me and 2 other lorries was on it whole way reason i went on was that signs flashing miles before that J10 to 6 on M6 closed and troll clear believing that troll was open over a closeure as i dont be in that area much.
When they say M6 J10 to 6 close what does this really mean?
As im not from that area and dont be in it very much that M6 part much.
Pansie Division:
Just look at a map the A5 runs near parallel to the m6. I always use it even if the m6 is free as its a change of scenery. As I’m always coming back down the A14 I follow the A5 all the way down to j1 on the m1 and its a stress free and easy trip
I use the A5 regular since I do a 6pm trailer swap in Nuneaton for Manchester, in my opinion, far too many roundabouts and traffic lights that stop you on an empty road, always seem to decide to change when you’re at ‘the decision point’ meaning quite heavy braking. Slow down in advance and they still change when you’re at exactly the same point, so you decide to approach a bit quicker to see if you can get through, but NO, same point, more heavy braking, red light for nowt, then build the speed back up and get passed by loads of cars and TNT and fed ex racers.
Lot of the roundabouts are adverse camber too, meaning extra slow or restacking back at depot. Crap road, hate it.

Its actually just short of 3 miles longer to use the toll than the M6 but what amazes me is that they have a service area on it.
I cant believe people use these services when they are using the road to save time and avoid delays.
Been on a few coaches to London that use that services as a changeover / rest area, does seem pointless, always arrive in the smoke later than the advertised time too.

correct answer five mins quicker on the m6 Irishrover it was closed for roadworks gate 10 - 6 pal so if you wasn’t familiar with the area, you did the right thing
