M6 Toll Road?

When I was on coltons they said the cost was offset against tax, so we used it with a tag anytime we were going past brum. Maritime, on the other hand, would have a hissy fit and refuse to reimburse you

Stobarts don’t have tags for the toll anymore. You need permission from the office if you want to use it.

GETTING:
Being an O/D i use it regularly if traffic is bad so easy and i use credit card plus i get the receipt to put through the books + saves driving hours

i’ve used it from day one, for the same reasons as above, when i employed people i encouraged them to use it to depending on the time of day of course. i do think they could lower the price a bit though.

I used it on Friday as there was an accident reported on Radio 2 at Spaghetti, causing lengthy delays. I Left Coventry at 08.11, arrived Liverpool 10.28 just £11 lighter. Sat on limiter all the way so l reckon I got back my £11 and some more ! The irony is, I probably only saw 3 trucks on the toll and they were all EE’s, one was from Russia !
I would need to be some reason to deter me from using the M6 though before using the toll, if the motorway is clear and it’s out of rush hour, you’re spending £11 to go the long way round !!

I can imagine the Toll Booth staff holding their hand out as you flew past at 50+mph

That doesn’t seem very good value though.

Ashford-Maidstone 2am you can pretend you’re on the M6 toll, and have a tug if it saves so much off the trip.
I’d prefer sticking to the also-clear side roads for free, and getting an extra half hours pay thanks very much. :grimacing:

I don’t like the way they set the motorway out at either end of the toll road, sort of entices you to carry on then catch you out.
Also wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t £11 to go up 1 junction!!

I wouldnt worry about the M6 toll if the Goverment study goes through and various other main routes are privatised its a fairly safe bet to say that within 5yrs you,ll be paying to travel on more than the M6 toll. Another fact for you is that the M6 toll is owned by an Australian company and has been from the start ( Sunday Times Business Section ) and up to press they havent paid a penny of the £900 mil it cost to the Gov because the estimates of traffic use havnt been met.

This is what I read in a Telegraph article, apparently it has never made dollar one since it opened, it is losing millions of pounds every year.
I use it when I’m in the car especially during the day but I used to have a Sprinter van and that was charged at the same rate as LGV’s
During rush hour I’d say it was money well spent.
They even charge motorbikes, not even the Mersey Tunnels do that.

Aye the article in the Times made intresting reading the same Aussy company also has its fingers in a couple of pies over here and up to press have paid ziltch in tax ect , and apparently has the Gov hog tied especialy over the toll road debarcle. It would help if on the toll road you only paid for the distance you travelled on it instead of full price no matter were you turn off, but as is being said on another thread on here the Gov ( who ever they are ) always say when something is paid for it will be toll free but it never works out that way. Severn, Darford, Humber, Mersey and so on.

We’ve had two of these poxy toll tunnels go into receivership in Brisbane just lately, because hardly anyone used them. It’s not just rip off Britain now, it’s rip off Australia too.

I have seen comments on this thread about being charged the full price on the M6 toll road even when only travelling part of the length of it.
It is some years since I used it but there was a discount if you left or joined at intermediate junctions. For example, coming north from Coventry and exiting the M6 toll at Lichfield you would not travel as far as the main toll plaza, but you would pass through a smaller toll station at the exit. In my car that was £1.00 cheaper than travelling in the opposite direction because going south from Lichfield took you through the main southbound toll plaza, hence you paid full price. Travel a bit further south along the A38 and join near Bassetts Pole and there is a toll booth at the entrance slip. Again there was a £1.00 saving by missing the main toll plaza. Has that changed now? Do they charge the same price throughout?

Incidently, that is how buses work in Canada, at least in the places I’ve used them. You pay a flat price of about $3.00 and that gets you a time stamped ticket which is good for an hour. You can travel anywhere the buses go even using several busses within that hour. The same ticket is good for the LRT which is like a small train or big tram. If you haven’t completed your journey within the hour, it doesn’t matter unless you need to change to a different bus after the time runs out. Then you need another new ticket.

Just look at a map :astonished: the A5 runs near parallel to the m6. I always use it even if the m6 is free as its a change of scenery. As I’m always coming back down the A14 I follow the A5 all the way down to j1 on the m1 and its a stress free and easy trip

On an economic driving course I was informed by a man with a large forehead that it costs somewhere in the region of £1.90 in fuel to accelerate a 44 tonne truck from a standstill to 56 mph. You don’t need to do that too many times on a heavily congested M6 to make the toll economically viable, and that’s without factoring the drivers extra wages in.

At least that’s my ready made excuse should I ever get tackled about using it, which I do a lot since I found out you can pay with your Keyfuels card that is

Shell fuel cards work too

It still has the two tier pricing:

Its actually just short of 3 miles longer to use the toll than the M6 but what amazes me is that they have a service area on it.

I cant believe people use these services when they are using the road to save time and avoid delays.

Seeing as its a private road and you have to pay to use i dont think there should be a speed limit for cars or atleast cap it to say 150mph… Do this and it mite actually make some money.

Only time I’ve not used the toll was when travelling in the very small hours as the main M6 is usually clear, just watch for the cameras.

have you ever drove through hinkley on the A5 in rush hour
long delays are normal
