M6 multiple-vehicle crash closes motorway at Coventry

M6 crash The northbound carriageway was closed earlier to allow access for the air ambulance

The M6 has been closed southbound following a crash involving two cars and two lorries.

Police said people were still trapped in vehicles and the extent of their injuries was not yet known. They said one lorry had overturned and gone down an embankment.

The accident happened near Coventry, between junctions 2 and 3 at about 07:45 BST.

The northbound carriageway was also closed, but has since reopened.

The Highways Agency said there were long delays in both directions and has advised motorists to find an alternative route.

I went past about 10 mins after it happened the container motor went up the back of a fridge prob Queing for m69. there was nothing left of the container drivers cab .thats one of the worst iv seen in a while hope the driver got out but what emergency serves that was there where helping the car drivers that where trapped.looks like the pin or 5th wheel sheered on impact as the fridge was upright on the embankment and it’s unit looked un damaged in lane 1. let’s hope all got out safe

According to Twitter everyone got out of it alive.

The roads are just too congested nowadays, god know’s what it’ll be like in ten years time? Is there a plan to build more proper roads to offer an alternative to the main trunk routes when they are busy or closed? I doubt it.

Something that has bugged me with these situations for a long is…why does the helicopter always have to land on the opposite carrigeway, surely they are best landing in front of the accident where the traffic has already stopped ■■?

Why cause even more problems closing the opposite carrigeway, and, if the patient is in a bad way, the last thing they need is being heaved over the armco ■■

From my experiences, the helicopter can be on the ground for sometime before the injured are freed.

I am not looking to critisise anybody, it just seems a strange way to go about a very difficult situation.

Probably not but there is this magic thing called HS2, which will free capacity for freight trains on the old main line and take trucks of the road… allegedly…

Not sure it’d be a great idea having a helicopter landing & taking off alongside traffic moving at high speed, traffic including high sided vehicles. Don’t they create somewhat a breeze? Not to mention the fact everyone would be staring at it.

In other news, another accident involving lorries near Lancaster… lancasterguardian.co.uk/news … -1-6548392

While on the subject an ambulance driver attending the scene has blasted “muppet” drivers who parked on the M6 hard shoulder after a crash blocking access for the emergency services. Coventry Telegraph

It is not roads that we need it is better education for drivers. Out of my observation 75% of traffic could be avoided but… driving standards are VERY poor.
Adding extra lanes on M25 did not help yet. Again our money have been wasted.

Hope your right buddy…I’ve never seen anything as bad as this

Driver of the container has a broken pelvis, leg, wrist and other minor injuries. It took a long while to get him out. Other drivers have minor injuries at the worst.
Dont make assumptions about what caused this. It was not queueing traffic for the M69, there is more to it. cant say anymore.
The helicopter doesnt land on the opposite carriageway but both carriageways need to be closed due to safety concerns. Helicopters are strange beasts so better to have lots of space to dump it onto if required. It also has a big fan on the roof which blows debris etc everywhere, again a safety thing.
The motorway is closed as there is a good chance or resurfacing being needed due to spilt oil and fuel.
Driver education will go a long way to stopping some of these incidents. The Police should be stopping drivers who tailgate as close as some seem to and show them what the outcome could be.

On a personal note, i am absolutely disgusted once again by the number of sick individuals who chose to drive past taking photos and videos, lorry drivers included. What on earth do you expect to do with the pics/footage, sit and home getting a hard on looking at dead or injured people?? Maybe you should come to scene and be part of it, might make you realise that injured, dead and suffering people from the incident deserve some dignity. Maybe of it was one of your family or friends you might think twice, although i doubt it. To anyone who i shouted at, gestured at or insulted today, you deserve it.

Well said Helmik. A few months ago one of ours was involved in a serious accident and pictures were all over the web before we knew about it. We didn’t know the condition of the driver for some time and i still shudder to think that one of his children could have been surfing the web and spotted ‘Dad’s’ lorry.

that’s A BIG +1
YOU TALK SOME TWADDEL S_S :unamused: that should make no difference. 1 vehicle 100,000 vehicles it’s down to how people drive.

I have seen photos of accident scenes on here that can only have come from members of emergency services/highways agency personnel from the position of the photo.

Maybe to preserve evidence, those rotor blades will shift a lot of debris.

Also I would think that with a high volume of Emergency workers on the ground they can continue to work whilst the Bird with the big head trimmer can do its own thing . mind with the chopper landing and throwing anything up can cause serious damage / injury to anything near by.

So you wont say how it happened but take the time to bring up tail gating, I think you need to learn some “how to keep a secret” skills lmfao.

P.S. don’t get a job with MI5, you won’t last a week!

Will drivers never learn.Once again luck has prevented any fatalities or serious injuries.
Yes it can happen to you and WILL if you drive like a moron.

Perhaps, albion1971, instead of lecturing other posters in other threads to read your posts properly, you could set an example and bother to read this thread in its entirety before you jump in with your normal sanctimonious, self-important preaching?

You, I assume, weren’t there. So you don’t know what happened, despite what you seem to think.
