truck hit back of bus. Coach driver in court

dailymail.co.uk/news/article … y-fog.html

That looks like a Stagecoach bus…why is one of the biggest bus operators in the country assigning a citybus in poor mechanical condition to a job that entails motorway running?

Covered in detail on here before. NOT a stagecoach bus. it was sold by them quite sometime before the accident.

I suspect there are a lot of people who would limp on if their vehicle was restricted in speed like this fella. Interesting to see the posts underneath, one guy said “What the hall is a slow lane, they are all the same on a motorway”. Actually Mr. know it all…they aren’t, there is an inside lane and then there are overtaking lanes. Another example of people who know everything but actually not knowing really anything.

It wasn’t a Stagecoach bus, but a private bus ferrying employees from fruit picking, we all know what that means then.

Does nobody think the truck driver should have been able to stop if he’d been driving at an appropriate speed for the conditions?

Hiya its very hard to know why… how… or who… was a fault.
there’s a clip on…you tube …about most serious accidents…most of the film is
where these insurance companies have driver’s to put a camera on the dash
to record the drivind skills. just have a look at the film and see how many
drivers get smashed (really smashed) up through no fault of there own just
a case of been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

on the M5 accident the crash happened where a bridge takes up the hard shoulder,
this goes back years when the M5 was only 2 lanes. the motorway was widened
making the hard shoulder the slower lane then a new hard shouled squeeeeesed
into the enbankment… possibly the ministry are completely at fault for the excuse
of a road widening mess up that was done 25 years ago.

I said in the original post that he saw the coach very late because the skid marks were very close to impact I think the fog must have been very dense.

Where do you draw the line?

You come upon a stationary vehicle in dense fog, what speed should you be doing? 20mph? Someone is going to rear end you.

The simple fact is that no-one would have died if the driver did his job and removed them from the bus when it broke down, not sat there for 15 mins until the impact.

Except the poor sod in the truck.

The trial report mentions that the bus had broken down more than once between junctions already that day and had only been capable of 26mph as a result. Seems a very bad decision to continue along the motorway in those circumstances. Not clear whether the collision was before or after Frankley services, but if the bus had passed the services having already developed the fault…

It was just before frankley servs.

Thing is about this crash in particular, is that it involved a fruit pickers vehicle. Iv had issues with the drivers of such vehicles before, and sometimes you have to ask how they got a licence? If more of Vosa’ money was targeted at these IMHO death traps, then other drivers may not be so unfortunate.

Hiya. i didn’t know about the bus having problems.the crash was not a big distance
past junction 3. maybe the bus/coach should have got off the motorway at jct 3.

He was sentenced today…m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-21426451

Did you know that the police have refused to name the bus owner/operator, and VOSA won’t say if they have investigated the bus owner/operator (which isn’t Stagecoach)?

Unusual, given that the truck driver’s employer WAS mentioned and was blameless.

Why stop in Lane 1? I really would like to ask that question to people when they do things like this. I also like to ask people who own white cars not have there lights on in thick fog! Why do they do it? Having a Audi seems to make people think they can cut you up and force there way in, why?
