It doesn’t bother me, because I not bothered who looks at my photos, but these 2 are mine, I took them in France when I was week-ended with this RC2 & 4 or 5 other Brits on my way to Italy. Regards Chris

I took this photo back in 87 on a school trip to france,it was parked up in a services somewhere as we headed south.I love the look of the old banger, she’s done the hard yards and the trailor looks fairly heavy. Does anyone recognize it and know who it belonged to? Wish I’d taken more than one picture, does anyone have anymore?
Cheers Jamie

a nice picture ,hopefully some one my just know who
and the whats about the truck in your picture and we
can then read as to what type of work and journey it
was doing, thanks for posting ,any more photos
hidden away ,

Yeah mate heaps, been taking photos since I was ten growing up in the UK. I’m 34 now and still taking them, reckon I would have over 10,000 by now,but not too many m/e bangers, shame as that is my favourite era. I’ll get some more up here soon, just new to this and still working out how to do it.
Cheers mate Jamie

Here is another one to identify, unloved but not at the time. :stuck_out_tongue:

It is not very clear and taken in 1981, but where?

Hi Malc,
If you stick that photo in the “Where was I?” forum, Mr LoneWolf will soon give you the answer to your question.

:open_mouth: …and I reckon he’ll even know who painted the white lines on the road!!

I had a middle esat spec white road commander 2 when i was o"ding in the very late 1980"s.its reg was WON363T ex dave stanway from walthamstow. It had the long sleeper, cat 3406,9 speed fuller with the circular gear patten, and a volvo f89 drive axle.the tanks were made up in turkey they held 1250 cherry then 250 white which was enough to get to dover and past st omer.I bought it because i had £7500 to spend on a unit the choices were a rusty tm 370 a rusty 320 transcon or the rot proof bullet proof white.best seat and bed{not a bunk] ive ever had.it could stay with the legandary 141"S 142"S on any climb you like.i think i posted a grainy pic on the 80"s international thread a while back.friends who had a lot newer volvos and scanias took the ■■■■ but when things got really bad in the game i could afford to pack up!!!

Those of you on the road during the 80’s and early 90’s will probably remember seeing this White RC. It used to belong to Neville Adams. This photo is when we were homeward bound, in Bulgaria re-loaded with wine.

It had a Volvo drive axle and later on Neville fitted an air lift tag axle. I can still remember the sound of the “big cat” cracking into life on a cold winters morning in Eastern Europe. What a reliable truck, I cant remember him ever breaking down !!

Hello Phil, my names Chris, me and my dad ued to work for Heavlhaul (and later Stacey Contracts), did you ever take any photos of GSP 177W, the RC2 Phil Dyke ran?? I’ve only the 1 photo,(poor quality) taken at one of the 4 or so Truck shows we done in the late 80’s early 90’s.
Although not the most comfortable motor ever built and the space was very limited for 2 on a night out (his being the short sleeper), it turned lot’s of head’s and done everything asked of her and looked good when he got it toshed up in the metallic green and white. I used to go round the cab with a posi-drive doing up all the loose self tappers holding the trim in place, it used stop the rattle’s for a day or so!!!
Saw your’s on the 120 the other day, has that got the Volvo back-end, same as Phil old one??
Reguards, Chris.

Hello Chris, regarding GSP177W I fitted new main and big end bearings and a clutch for Phil Dyke about 20 years ago.,The truck showed up near Newark about 4 years ago, and it came to us to have some work done and an mot. I dont know if i have any pics of it, i will have a look. Our white wrecker is currently broken, having broken a planet gear in the third differential of the F88 d/d rear end. Sadly no parts are available and we are having some gears made. Hope to have her humming again in a couple of weeks. PHIL NASH.

Did it have the high roof sleeper on it? I seem to remember there being an article in Trucking International some years ago about a White RC owned by Stanway,it was driven by Kenny Snoeks (RIP).

hi, Just noticed your question about Stanway’s old high roof white.i still have some of it in my container and I have a picture of it on my wall. The reg is HMU98W and it is white with red and orange decals. Kenny snoaks drove Most of Stanway’s whites including this one.

Hi Phil, yeah i remember the White being rebuilt, more than once!, She’d go like a scalded cat when that engine was fresh, but you soon new about it when it was’nt, fuel consumption used to drop to as low as 3 mpg and that fuller spent most of its time in low range!.
Shame to hear your motor is sick mate, i think Dyke’s had an 86 back end, and also had 86 front spiggott mounted wheels, i remember it popping half shaft’s every now and then when running heavy.Glad to hear the old girl may still be about, think it had a bad oil leak and a cracked chassis when he sold it in 92.
I remember that high roof RC, it was ordered with that cab but when it arrived it just had the standard height version, i think it was someone like Locomotors that converted it.
Cheers for the info Phil
Regards Chris

Hi Phill thanks for the reply mate,do you have any pics of DHY 974W before you converted it to a wrecker please mate?
I also found the artice about the Road Commander with the high roof on M/E work.

Cheers Jamie
