G’day Lee,
Cheers again for more information, any chance of getting hold of you dad’s photo albums and sticking a few pics up?
I remember seeing a White Road Commander from the UK whilst I was working at Baghdad Airport in 1979, We came back from work to the Hotel we were staying in (Hotel Ibn Fernaz) and parked outside was 3 trucks from the UK, I think they were from a firm called Hicks.
Anyway the White was on its first trip and the driver had mixed reviews about it, but the only trouble he had had with it was a air pipe had rubbed thru due to the road conditions on the way down.
If I remember rightly it was silver with the pointed strips.
and does anybody remember the white with “■■■■■ Power” on the windscreen that was on UK work.

Taken at Truckfest late 80s. Anyone recognise the name?
IIRC Fred Lay bought this White from Jiltlynn Transport of Cambridge. It started life there in this color but was resprayed all red with white and yellow pinstripes, just like a circus truck.

GERRY HILL — THE LITTLE MAN WITH A BIG HEART
Gerry is now resting in peace, but what of the politicians who are responsible for destroying him? When will they be brought to account?
Thanks for that story Phil.
Not only the politicians, but the shyster jobs-worths in Dover who knew that he was not involved, but never the less pursued an action against him.
The ludicrous system that allows it, that reverses UK law that says you are innocent until proven guilty, except where Her Majesty’s Custom & Excise are involved.
Can you imagine any other country on the planet that would allow such an injustice against one of their own ?
Maybe someone would like to comment!
I know its a Freightliner, but White were merged with them in the States so its the closest thread on here. Pictured in BP garage at Milton/Didcot Oxon A34 a couple of months ago! Couldn’t get round the front for a better angle.
