M/E Spec White Road commander

Nice 1 Bubbs, much appreciated mate

Used to run from somewhere down South Coast? Retired now onto show circuit I think.

The sad day that Gerry Hill made his last trip on YBK 383V R.I.P

Taken at Truckfest late 80s. Anyone recognise the name?

Photobucket

I bought this truck from Fred LAy in 1985, written off. I rebuilt it and sold it on.

Hi samnash 16,
Wish you had sold her on to me, I always wanted a RC2!

Saw a white coloured RC2 with the factory red stripes on the A1 yesterday around Newark, with a short and shallow gravel type tipper trailer - anyone know it?

Heres a few of my photos:
Although not M/E spec (as such) Partrick’s of Stanwick near Rushden bought one from the Motor Show and ran in regularly on thier UK Portugal service.

Anyone remember the “UK spec” version?? Right hand drive and a shortened sleeper (YUK!) Here are a couple of Irish examples.
I photographed Maxwell’s in the 1980’s on Northampton services (M1 junc 15a Rothersthorpe) during a summer evening with a field of burning stubble behind.

Nice pics Ash, I like the Dave Duxbury one! Many a tale to tell I bet.

Regards,

Mark.

Here you are Ash. The UK spec Road Commander. For those that are interested, the rest from this brochure is on this forum, on the SALES BROCHURES thread.

Hi, this White Road Commander 2 is one of Marsh Freight’s in Dewsbury West Yorkshire. My father operated up to five of these in his fleet. Blue with a white stripe. Cat 290 and a Rockwell back axle. They ran to Italy, Germany and the Benelux countries. The last one was scrapped in 1989. Great trucks and loved by all of my dad’s drivers. Happy Days.

NZ JAMIE:

I took this photo back in 87 on a school trip to france,it was parked up in a services somewhere as we headed south.I love the look of the old banger, she’s done the hard yards and the trailor looks fairly heavy. Does anyone recognize it and know who it belonged to? Wish I’d taken more than one picture, does anyone have anymore?
Cheers Jamie

No they never ran the Middle East. They ran from Dewsbury, Eire, NI and to most European countries with a lot of car parts. I haven’t anymore photo’s here but the old man has an album full of them in the traffic office.

Most White’s in the UK came from Bromborough, but I can’t remember the name of the supplier. I visited the wharehouse alot as a kid and had many White items, eg, jackets, T-shirts, and belt buckles etc. I was White mad and I can still now draw this truck side on with a tilt trailer. Mad as you like then!!!

In fact thinking about it this old red tilt was rebuilt into a curtainsider to run with a six wheel tractor unit and then was lengthend to 45’ in 1995.

You could buy diecast models as well of White RC2’s, which I’ve got in a cupboard.

I hope it helps.
