Lorry washes

Anyone ever used one?

We’ve got one at the hub at hatfield. Never anyone about to ask how to use it, but must be simple enough!

Do i need to fold in the mirrors though or what?

Just think of it as a giant car wash.

We use the one at Whitwood truckstop, and their other one at Trafford Park.

Folding of mirrors is optional, but usually a good idea.

Ken.

Is it a brush type or spray jet? If it is a brush type have a good look at the brushes to see if there is grease on any of the bristles and if there is forget it. Other than that you park the vehicle in the wash find the button to start and push the one for the size of vehicle.

At our depot you then go and get the maintenance man because the [zb] machine throws a moody and traps the truck inside.

Another point you may find there are tempreture sensors which imobilise the thing in freezing conditions.

Nothing but trouble usually!

I used the one at lymm truck stop funnily enough the other week and it got the truck spanking clean :sunglasses: but for £13.50 for a rigid it ought to :open_mouth: piece of cake to use as well i just drove paid and sat there whilst the cleaners hosed it down then the wash came over and did its thing :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

One point i will make if you drive an old 3 series scanny when you go on the wash make sure take some soap and shampoo the [zb]ing thing leaked that much i was wetter than the outside of the truck :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

simon

and dont take it through unit only . boss will not be impressed.

also if you got a tail lift that comes up the back of the trailer make sure its raised as the one at litlewoods used to get traped under the tail lift stops on the trailer.

jon

we have one on site although its a jet wash with a cage to reach the top and its only used by the bloke who washes the bulkers. our wagons are filthy and the only way to wash them is the nearest MSA with the hose for topping up water. i use it to wet the windows/mirrors, wipe them over and rinse off. other than that, we get dirty just opening the door

yeah it’s the drive through brush type.

I’ve got a MAN TGA, with a demountable on the back.

the motors do look pretty spanking when they come out of it.

The back of the box i picked up today was black rather than the usual bright yellow! :open_mouth:
side windows and everything were getting pretty minging too,

So its fold in mirrors and tell it what size the motor is?
Ive got one of those acrylic sunvisor things on the top of the windscreen (standard on the TGA i think) does that matter?

Didnt want to go through it and drive out leaving half the truck in there!

Scanny…Why not get them to open an account with Tankclean? It’s only just 'round the corner from you and always used to be pretty reasonable when you think of the possible corrosion that happens over winter if you don’t wash the salt off regularly.

i have used the whitwood, lymm, trafford park, MK and the one at truck world the best one is defo at lymm.

got
to agree the truck wash at lyme is the best them lads on the hoses d a great job and will even pull ya mirrors back well they will be getting an xmas tip of me this year ,

remember trying is the first step towards failiur

It won’t damage it m8,just means that part of window don’t get washed.Them eyellow wagon’s seen to attract the dirt. never out of the shower in our depot,i hate a dirty cab.

i use the one at hellaby fairly regularly, ten pound odd for unit only, it dosn’t come out spotless but having done it with a brush and a jet wash myself, they can have my tenner every time!

is that the bloke with the transit and all the tubing etc featured in one of the magazines a few months ago?
we do have a washdown point but drivers are not allowed to use it and the bloke who is employed to use it wont touch our trucks. he only washes the tanks/units. i have moaned about this and the excuse is that he runs out of time or misses them. the ERF that i enjoy driving has only been washed once to my recollection and i started there in april :unamused:

Scanny, the washing people who come round with the boom is Auto Gleam of Eastleigh (not far from you) and we use them to come to our yard and wash our vehicles. (we have a problem that the surface water goes directly to a stream but the boom prevents that and all the soapy water is sucked into the van)
I can recommend them, and they are able to wash all our vehicles from the Sprinter up to the artic.
Simon who came out to us was very helpful and we have now booked him on a regular basis.

Being an agency driver I don’t mind getting the old steam cleaner that most firms have out and giving the motor a quick splash of water, it’s usually on overtime rate so that helps.

It’s not there anymore Lucy, has moved round to Marchwood, so a bit further out of his way!!

it is a good idea but i cant see the boss going for it for 2 reasons

  1. we have a truck wash so there is no need for a contractor
  2. this is the guy who caused chaos by sending his entire office staff on a course at the same time. i try to avoid confusing him by offering him choices

Feel like the odd one out, everyone else has shiney units and i’m driving out of the hub with a virtually black box on!

Be nice to at least start the trip with cleanish windows though!

Mad rush last week to get my company assesment done, now i’ve got four weeks on trunks.

I started off in my job keeping the lorry as clean as I could…but I’ve given up…they don’t even have a hose pipe let alone a pressure washer.

I’ll take that as them not being bothered if they’re clean.
