To a point I wholly agree. There are good ones but due to the questionable nature of the process to actually get over it kinda follows that they would end up running for “scale dodgers”
Welcome to Trucknet by the way

Hey there Carl. Quick question. How do you find it over here and what do you think of the equipment ■■? Is your left leg hurtin yet ■■
carl1967:
the next thing you mite say is that you cannt be in england driving on a class a cdl from the states just as the brits did but then there you go again no one call up the dvla and ask.
No need to call 'em up It can’t be done.
Guess enough said. Well done, Coffee.
Ian, I admire your reserve.
Unless they have changed the rules drastically in recent weeks, it is all bunkum. Even the US’ closest neighbours cannot get to work in that manner. They also have to sit driving tests.
cheers Bob
P.S. love that smiley
consider it nicked That’s another coffee I owe you then. I’ll need shares in Timmys soon
the thing that gets me in all of this is the fact that even though great britain and the usa are the greatest of allies there is no free movement of people between the two.
would it be so wrong.
a brit and a us soilder can fight side by side like they have done many times before and no doubt in the future, but come the day the brit tries to get a job in the states or a us citizen tries to get a job here in the uk then they,ve had it.
i have family un the us, an aunt and cousins etc but i could,nt get into the usa on them grounds.
even with the green card lottery i am not allowed to enter because im english i could enter it on the grounds that my mother was born in germany because german nationals and there family can enter the green card lottery but i cant see the life of it why brits cant just be able to go. are we so different
Maybe because Britain lets anyone and everyone in from everywhere. So if the USA has an open door to Britain, it has an open door to the world.
Ironic isn’t it
I was once told it is because due to the better economic conditions and common - ish language if we could move we all would do, even if just for the weather and that the reason it’s so hard to go is because the UK governments don’t want us to
Try this one then, Ian. You managed to do this to his argument!
or
Hundreds of them for any occasion!!
I reckon I owe you a coffee, too, for the humour!
nicked and nicked Bob cheers
sorry I missed you in the chatroom mate. Bloody lappy crashed and wouldn’t let me back in
Note to self: never let kids on lappy ever, ever, ever again
Hello Everyone:
Jim here in Toronto.
Canada and the USA have a very close trading realationship, including the NAFTA ( North American Free Trade Agreement ), but when it comes to Immigration, we Canadians DON"T get any breaks, nor do we give any to Americans who want to come tro Canada, to work and live.
To my knowledge, an American trucking company CANNOT get green cards ( they are actually pink in colour ) for overseas drivers.
On the other hand, in Canada, transport companies CAN get assistance, under the Provincial Nomination Program, to expedite the applications of UK drivers, to get a " work permit " that allows the driver to come to Canada for up to 2 years, with a guranteed job , whe he arrives here. The employer works thru the Provincial Government of the Province in which the company has it;s head office, and that Province helps get the application moved thru the Canadian Federal Government’s Immigration service program.
The end result is a system that matches qualified overseas drivers with Canadian companies that WANT to hire them, with no "middle men " involved. Canadian transport companies hold " driver information week ends " all over the UK each year, to recruit and interview drivers to come to Canada. . Once a driver has landed in Canada, and has acquired their class 1 Canadian driving permit and has passed the companies WHIMIS and HAZMAT course they are able to start driving, usually with a driver trainer, as a team operation.
A UK driver with a Canadian " tempoary work permit " cannot drive into the USA, as the USA will not allow it . On the other hand, if a driver has a "Canadian Permanment Resident " status, they are free to enter the USA at any time, provided tjhey are only delivering to a specific American destination and are then coming directly back to Canada , with a return load… Canadiian registerd trucks CANNOT carry goods from point to point in the USA… The same rules apply to American trucks in Canada.
Jim Bunting. Toronto.
With a British Passport, you can obtain a Visa Waiver which entitles you to drive into the US in the same way as a Canadian can. You cannot get FAST approval until you are PR which prevents you from crossing with hazardous goods among other restrictions.
sorry i been away but now im back

See now I just had an achey left leg due to all the extra shifting and each shift being a full one and not a float
Personally I find the European driving position and cab layout (from the drivers seat) much more ergonomically comfortable. Although I do miss the sleeper size although in all fairness I couldn’t stand up in my Pete
I also prefer the more logical switchgear and guage layout in European motors as opposed to the “heres 30 identical switches and 10 guages, lets just hurl them at a flat dash and see where they land” US approach
Oh and not forgetting that new fangled European “ADJUSTABLE” air suspension
What were ya yankin back home then and what with
carl1967:
if your talking about the black pete on friday on the M25 its mine got tired of trying to get in to the small trucks over here and had mine shiped over from the states
But then in this thread
carl1967:

So Carl is either a liar with a poor memory or… Nah, that’s pretty much it.

I’m prepared to be educated so tell us the criteria that makes you exempt from the restrictions on the DVLA site for people from just about every country outside the EU?
carl1967:
i’ll even take you on a run with me to show you one can drive in the uk with a CDL A from the states
No thanks, you seem more than a little confused as to what truck you are driving, Yank or European, so we may end up in the wrong one and that could end up as Grand Theft Auto…
it not bad of a truck over here its just me. i like my old truck miss the horse power 600 ■■■■■■■ 18 speed 3.55 rears 120in sleeper 379 ex-hood pete with a lowboy trl. thinking about going back to hualing a cow wagon when i get back to the states

Snap exactly the same except for we have the 575 CAT and shorter sleeper We also have the 280 inch chassis I think because we move the tanks forwards a bit to squeeze “training wheels” in
You will be aware of what I meant about the switches then and the impossible for ME to see pyro temp
was hualing for atlantic logisics for the us army tanks and hummers but dont think i want any more to do with a lowboy any more but who knows for sure yet
