Im looking for work as a long distance UK, Irish and European van driver. I recently tried to set up my own business, but unforunately this venture wasn’t very succesfull and put me in to alot of debt. Im 23 and looking for a start. Ive allways had an interest in driving, travel and haulage. I would be very gratefull if someone would be able to help me out with finding a job as a long distance van driver. Im based in Ireland, but can re-located to anywhere for work as Ive no family commitments and don’t mind being away from home for long periods of time.
You’ve just missed the boat on a good job that was offered last week but it’s now filled by 2 members on here.
Think there is or might be 1 on offer!!! But you aren’t old enough just noticed your age.
like wise as the OP, i’m young single and have no commitment’s. all i needed was an in date passport, and i’d be very happy to leave the same day… maybe in a few year’s once i’m not 21
A passport isn’t difficult to get, and it’s valid for 10 years so it might not be a bad idea to get one in case something crops up.

Is there anything that can be done about the insurance? Id be willing to pay towards the insurance if needs be to get a start!!

It depends on the company and how bothered they are to try and get you covered. I started driving class 1 at 21 (2005) and all that was required then was that my excess was £1000 instead of £500 for an over 25 driver. Some companies just wont even entertain the idea though, especially if theres a ready supply of over 25s. I was lucky in that my dad had worked at the company for about 15 years at the time and they’d been promising me a job there since the age of 9!
The experience is crucial too. Sorry to put up barriers, but he does require experience.

Tried that. I was promised full-time work if I were to buy a van. I bought a 2008 Mercedes Sprinter 315 xlwb. I only had it less than 2 months and got my 1st trip with it from Ireland to the UK. The engine blew in it near Swindon in Wiltshire!!

Apparently BigVern1 has a Class 1 licence but prefers driving vans. I don’t know why this would be but that’s what he says.
Because I choose what I want, and not what YOU think I should. And I never said I HAVE class one. I used to drive them doing my bit for my country.
Ah, ok, apologies. I read it that you were licensed to drive trucks. Presumably you mean that you drove them with the armed forces, although I thought that you still had to have the relevant licence to drive one in the army?
