It certainly would of done in my case in the past , 11 hrs driving on a Friday , Christ I often only needed a extra 15/20 mins , he’s giving 2 hrs extra to get home , well done grant

The reaction from the Grocery trade’s mouthpiece. The move has been welcomed by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, which has lobbied for the measure since the onset of the crisis in April.
“This is just what food distributors needed, an immediate and obvious solution to what could have been a catastrophic supply chain failure,” said FWD CEO James Bielby.
“The flexibility in drivers’ hours means those out-of-the-way shops, pubs and restaurants will get the stock they need for the big re-opening on Freedom Day, and will allow wholesalers to do as much as 15% more deliveries each day.
“Provided it remains in place into the autumn, it will avert possible school closures in September and shortages in the shops in the run-up to Christmas.”
One national wholesaler said the additional time would allow it to deliver up to 15% more loads a day
…Meanwhile, The Grocer understands that the government is also in advanced talks with industry to relax immigration rules with the introduction of a temporary visa to allow EU drivers to work in the UK
More of the same crap then, flood us with people not thinking where or how we can accommodate everyone, housing shortages packed roads, schools are at breaking point.Dr appointments waiting times hospitals crammed etc
What sort of idiot politicians are we voting for.
Nothing wrong with immigration! But this will fail again and again.
As I’ve said before whenever this ■■■■■■■■ comes up…
If you’re short of cash and/or on a brilliant rate…fill yer boots.
If not anybody who does this is a ■■■■ mug imo especially if actually TOLD to do so by their boss…,
Do we not do more than enough permitted and ridiculous hours already as it is??
And how come it’s suddenlly became safe and acceptable to what is essentially driving over your time.
They can shove it up their collective arses for me, I ain’t playing.

I’m lucky I work at a place that does own contract not for profit haulage. When the relaxation for Covid came in, we mentioned about it for the transport office to say under no uncertain terms were we to deviate from standard hours.
As I don’t get paid for my breaks, I’ll think I’ll pass on this opportunity to lose another 45mins of my day for nowt.
Bloody hell,I’m struggling to understand all that about the weekly rest.I usually do 6,5 ,6,5 days.
I don’t think it means I can suddenly start doing a constant 6 day week
Anyone considering this as an answer to the driver shortage should insert the blunt end of a ragmans trumpet into their most private orifice.

Hardly anyone except the continental boys are doing 10 hrs driving per day, let alone 11. It’s a nonstory. You will reach your 15 hr limit way before you get to 11 hrs driving. Just carry on as normal.

Can someone help me so from next week WE can drive more then 10hour a day?
What’s all this ‘WE’ business??
Nah …‘‘YOU’’ can if you want, just don’t involve me.
Just you crack on mate.
dozy:
like last time , if I was working , ran out of hours / driving time on a Friday & his extra hours got me home I’d be more that thankful for the relaxation of hours , same as when they did it before
I just want to get home whatever , good luck to the ones with principles who will sit in a lay-by for 11 hrs on a Friday night instead of using the relaxation in rules ,but getting home is more important to me than principals
Here’s a bizarre curveball thought to run past you doze…
Alternatively you could just tell them to stop ■■■■ ing you about, and get you home within your normal hours instead of letting them run you to the limit and beyond week after week.
But that aside…You can sure as hell bet they would plan you that extra hour not to get home, but for you do an extra hours work, then run in in the morning…

The economy in the UK has been one if comparatively low production rates for ages. The short term investors aren’t interested in long term investment in plant or training. To grow the economy the population must increase. This has been going on for decades under different Governments.
Lack of schools, hospitals, doctors, when it has been projected that the population will increase is a blatant failure of central Gov.
The projected figures all showed greater need for more facilities but time and again tax-cutting parties were elected.
No schools or hospitals? Blame the immigrants. Easy, soft target. Don’t blame a lack of investment in the future by those taking profits from it, and living in tax havens.
Oh, and ask for ever lower taxes for the rich so they won’t run away. As if they would leave their money making properties here behind.
Keep reading the Mail and Express as Murdoch and the Barclays tell you how tough it is for poor investors today, and how we should be grateful that they buy profitable factories in the UK.

There’s 5 other threads on this on the front page. Do a search.
Plan might just backfire - drive more people out of the job - wupps.
How do I apply for the extension/exemption from rules? I want 6 days every week like the rest of normal people

You’re too late.
Grant Schapps has left the office for the weekend.
He’ll be back in at the crack of Tuesday.
