D.E NEWHAVEN,TERRY POVEY,JUST STOPPED FOR A QUICK MINT UP,FANCEY A CON LECHE SKIPPY.

Blimey! A name from the past!! His brother-in-law was my old transport manager when I worked for Dobbs’ in the '80’s. I remember Terry telling us the stories of his Spanish jaunts!

Great pics mate, I didn’t realize Mr Ersser had so many motors.

Regards,

Mark.

ROSIER NEWHAVEN.

I remember there were 3 of these Rosier units working on traction out of newhaven when I started my 1st full time job for Montgomery in 1995. Compared to my beat up scania that had been ragged to death by day and night men at toddington before being sent down to us lowly outbased trampers they always looked like new. The last time I saw 1 was sunk to it’s axles on a grass verge just outside cowfold. I believe Rosier were taken over by securicor sometime in the late 90’s.

Other firms I remember pullin traction out of newhaven at the time were Pendice who I believe are still going, Boniface who I haven’t seen for years, Holloway from hailsham who I think runs tippers now and also Pat Pallett from coalvillle who were running white and blue F cabbed globetrotters.

Despite having lived on the sussex coast all of my life I’ve only ever worked for 2 sussex firms.

The1st was D.R. Bailey from ford who I went to work for to get on the euro work. I spent 18months running to spain in various MANs ,IVECOs and SedAks to be given an FH12 globetrotter 2months before they packed up the euro work and all the units went back to volvo.

The only other sussex firm is F.L. Gamble from Worthing where I’ve worked for 7 years. When I started they ran tippers, grabs, RoROs, sweepers and low-loaders totalling nearly 50 trucks . The firm has changed a lot in 7 years and now all thats left is 2 low-loaders and a crane lorry.

I also did a short stint for this crowd but a few years before this pic was taken because all the trucks were R reg when I was there. At the time we had 3 Daf SSC, 3 Volvo GTXL and 5 Topline Scanias on Gib and 5Daf SC on UK work. I loved the run to Gib but the double manning wasn’t for me.

Cheers

Hi Neilf,

you say you’re on Gambles, does Les Radcliffe still work for them? This was going back a few years mind, but he drove an artic with a low-loader. Sure someone would know him. I drove for his old man (see avatar image, “Radcliffes”). I met Les a couple of times, nice fella. Also did you ever come across an owner-driver called Phil Ollif? He did a bit for Baileys, although most of his work was pulling fridges for Eurotrans from Cesena (Italy). He had a white left-■■■■■■ FH12.

Regards,

Mark.

Hi there was a firm from Brighton (I think) doing M/E in the 70’s with red MAN’s they got ■■■■■■■ with Whitetrux IIRC. I am sure I have seen a pic somewhere on T.N.
Aren’t Shakespears fron Sussex?

Thats Burgess for ya…spent all his money on tidy kit for his blue eyed ■■■ licking boys!! :unamused:

Neillf…was it you who i met in Pulborough, you saw my Continental express jacket and said…" oh, you one of Johnny Meads boys are you?" When i had a stint with F.L Gamble on the tippers.
Another job that was crap pay/unachievable bonuses.
