I owned EPU 300T for quite a few years Pat Scorey drove it for me I bought it from Tony ‘Hot to Trot’ Bradfield.

Here he was pictured coming out of the Frejus Tunnel pulling a BCT Trailer

I think Robinsons of Suffolk had it originally

I’m certain that 111 was one of Davies here pictured with John Shaw

Hi Pat. That 111 is XVW 51S. Not certain, but pretty sure that is the old man sat in the truck. Think it might be where the T.V’s used to offload but too young to remember that! He bought it off of Sean Moran (The Captain) The picture from ebay is after it was sold but who to I do not know. I do know that during that period of 111 / 141 fleet, that was the first one he bought and the last one he sold before going back onto Volvo. Micky Long drove it for quite a while on STS for him.

Just had a proper look on ebay at that picture and the Headboard says ‘FR Hurren + Son’ So that would be Frankie Hurren from Fulham it was sold to. Looking at the trailer behind it, I would not be surprised at all if it is a Solstor / Chingford Chereau as he used to sub for them. Have not seen him for years. last time he was driving for Delice De France when the 4 Series Scania came out.

Sorry I got it wrong! The main picture with John Shaw is not XVW. XVW was a left ■■■■■■ and only had a single Eminox, not twin! The one in the main picture could have been any of the others, quite possibly LCG 920T which ended up being bought by Ian Elkins. LCG was a 141 and I think it started life at Sparks of Glastonbury from new. I saw a picture of it on here a long time back.

thanks pat and horry , i put these on the photo forum first , maybe better on here ! , this scania wyb 216m was also said to have been once owned by sparks of glastonbury , although i have never seen a pic of the truck in their colours

Hi Pat yes your right its was Natham Ambridge , wow that was a name i had forgot Graham Sanford if i remember right he was a very immaculate driver who wore overalls to strip the tilt down and kept his truck in immaculate condition , did he come from Newbury area i think he worked for Sayers Of Newbury at one time and yes i remember tony going to work for him ,so thinking back about tony he worked for scac in portsmouth but who was he working for then was he back on for you then ? you got me thinking back then and another name i remember was Tim Elkins( or no nights out ) as his nick name was , now not 100% sure but did he have a F10 volvo and came from the Romsey area with a farm/small holding.

I only found this site a few days ago and have read back over the older posts so many names I have remembered over the past few days its been so good

your son pat is he a chip of the old block , working in the yard he looks so young!

Hi again trailerman are you Peter or John by any chance■■?

I think you were talking about Tim Howkins from Romsey i have not seen him for ages.

Also I think I’m right in saying that Graham Sandford came from Thatcham.

Regards Pat

Hi Pat plus other 'ampshire drivers.I haven’t seen any photos of errr I think Henry Smithers green ERF “A” series that ran out of International Synthetic Rubber (spelling test for me) at Hythe when I was running in there in the 70s. Maybe I have missed any posted pics of them,if any?

Hi these are the only Smithers pics I remember.

Ref; Tim Howkins, he still lives in Braishfield, My sister rents the annex off the main house,so see him quite regularly when visiting her. He does a bit of agriculture work in the harvest & does a bit of sailing & bit of this & that, He looks the same as when he was pulling for Jamie’s. His white & blue volvo had a flat airofoil as not many had them then?
