If he was in the cab I bet he needed some clean pants!!! :open_mouth::laughing:

Nice one Pat, assuming the whole rig was for export, i bet it was still shipped out.

Hi Johnnie

I think that SCA did run a couple of Bussings out of Chandlers Ford but that was way before my time

Hi Pat That sounds familiar they were the first wagon to have all the bells and whistles on I can recall a demonstrator which had a TV fitted above the passenger seat and this was in the 70s and had a lot of room as the roof was raised and a very low engine cover but they never took off over here most likely cost and back up service.

thank you regards Johnnie

Hi Pat and Johnnie. Sorry but SCA didn’t run any Bussings out of Chandlersford. I actually applied for a job with them when I knew they were moving up from Newhaven round about '64 or '65 but was told they would not employ anyone under 35yrs and at that time I was too young so I ended up with Jamesons. They ran 4 and 6 wheeled Maggie deutz units and acquired a 4 wheeler rigid which later gained a trailer and was run as a roadtrain. They only ever ran a fleet of Maggies from there until just before they moved again to London. Before the move they started to change the fleet to Scanias which were purchased from Dorado Commercials of Guildford. Some of you out there may remember the Chandlersford mob which consisted of drivers such as Bill Brown, Ralph Mullens, Joe ‘90’, Bobby Jones, Peter Jones, Steve Holman etc.
Going back to Bussings, I always reckoned that they were the best thing on the road at that time. Every Bussing driver that I spoke to seemed to agree. They had a very roomy walk-through cab that was very quiet due to the fact that the engine was fitted to the side of the chassis (which must have been good for maintenance). If I remember correctly every one that I saw was fitted with a M.A.N. engine.
Regards, Nobby

Well said Nobby. You certainly are a fountain of knowledge.
Also you really are knockin on a bit (But you don,t look it!)
Am I still coming round for tea tomorrow?
Still around then Richard? The Alton outing is on hold at the moment.
The roads are blocked with leaves.GazIOW is marooned on the island.
Jimski is loaded out with work and wants double time! I,ve spent my
pension money. So it looks grim.Regards Charlie

Do you want to borrow summat Charlie, just to keep you going? I’m only a poor owd pensioner like you but I’ve always got a bit parked up just in case.

Charlie you want to be sharp taking Chris up on it as I think he his due to go to Switzerland with a couple of travel trunks for his numbered bank accounts :exclamation:  its a good job the tax man doesn’t come here otherwise I would have dropped him in it

Nobby I was not sure but I just seem to recall some one from Southampton area running “Bussings” and I can’t claim the brain is going as I was never wired up properly from birth so I am unable to use that as an excuse ! I know that the rigid wagons were under slung engines but not sure about the units but I do recall they were very roomy and that you could walk across the cab and they had all sorts fitted which no other manufacturer fitted and they were very quiet, like you I never heard any one who drove one have a moan about them and probably the first factory high roof cab 40 years ago :open_mouth:

cheers Johnnie

Many thanks for the offer Chris.Just a few quid until my ship comes home.
My problem is I spent my cash on slow horses and fast wimmin! and squandered the rest.

Hello all
Looking through the White Road Commander site i came across this White.I remember seeing this motor around Southampton in the 80s.Does anyone else remember this lorry■■?

Regards Jacko

Hi R Jacko that white has been on this thread before mate used to be on Kingswood Transport I belive that Tony Barber (gringo) was the driver once upon a time that was mid 80s i think i read on this thread that the engine let go ! R Jimski

ainacs:

adr:

I was weekended with this guy in France sometime in the early 80s, maybe someone out there knows the wagon/driver.

I believe that this White was owned by Kingswood Transport Southampton which was run and owned by Les Flack it was originally a 4X2 tractor the back end was replaced with a bogie off an 86 Volvo 6X2 and was converted by Mick Winterbourne and his son.

I will post this on the Southampton thread someone there will know more detail I am sure!!

Who knows any more■■?

Regards Pat

Here we go R Jacko Jimski

A couple of Baker Transport pics for Jacko courtesy of Chris Hill

As you are all such frequent church goers Does anyone recognise what/where this church is/was?

Morning Pat, dont know where that church is/was but as it happens when i was a nipper i used to be in
the choir as well as being a campanologist at St Peter & St Pauls church in Fareham.
I used to get time off from school to sing at weddings and funerals and got paid a couple of bob as well.
Dunno where it all went wrong really…Must have been when i met Fergie who got me into transport 40 odd years ago. :imp: :imp:

Are you in the yard tomorrow Pat ? if so i,ll probably call in for a cuppa.Perhaps Jimski can make it as well aye if he aint too busy.

Anyway here,s a couple more for Jacko i found on the net.

Finally this one taken at a Christmas do in the 50,s Is your Grandad here Jacko ?
