Hi as a few have already guessed these are pics of Bakers Yard at the old Six Dials before the new road to the docks was built. I only vaguely remember it as my dad used to take me my brother and sister for walks on a Sunday after mass at St Edmunds Church in the Avenue and we would walk around that area before having a drink of lemonade in the back saloon bar of the Edinburgh pub that stood on the edge of the Six Dials next to a stonemasons!

Must have been around late 50’s early 60’s

Pics courtesy of Chris Hill taken by his dad

A couple of pics courtesy of Numbum from the Scrapbook thread

An ex Pitters Maggie

A MAN hauling a SCAC trailer

Anyone know where these pics were taken? It may have been somewhere in the South as the Maggie was an ex Southampton Hauliers’ and Scac trailers used to ship into Southampton/Portsmouth? Also those houses in the background look fairly familiar!

Do any of you remember WarwickTransport? I think Dad drove for them before he went to Smithers. They also had a petrol station on the Toton Bypass. That is where they parked their lorries. They had maroon Volvos.

HI PAT CAN YOU PULL THAT JOKER THING OVER ONTO HERE FROM THE F10 F12 F16 THREAD CHEERS AL

GOT THIS FOR GAZZER,POSTED IN THE ECHO 05 O8 8O FIRST ON UK ROADS I BELIEVE REGARDS AL.
SUSSED IT OUT PAT SORTED

Thanks for that cutting. The guy in the foto is Bob Elms, Princes delivery driver at the time.

But then if I read the blurb it said that anywayz! Doh!

Another of Paddy Keoghans pics his Kenworth next to a high top White either going to/from Middle East!

Hi I found these in a drawer in the office today who remembers using these books?

A little battered but would it be of any use today in Italy?

Or this one from 1984

Richard. After all these years, its time to confess.I have just realised that the trip I did which included Germany Holland Austria and Italy,I may have made a slight error.I got my German Marks mixed up with my Lira.I now think that 100.000DM for a phone call may have been slightly over the top.I only just found my error.Sorry! I told GAZIOW this afternoon and he told me not to worry about it.So thats all right then Regards Charlie

Hello All
Heres Grandads KV ERF 4wheeler with a Sunbeam racing car at Oulton Park 1962

Regards Jacko.

Perhaps some of you Southampton drivers know or heard of a time in 1976, I done a trip to france from Southampton to Le Havre, delivered To Caen, then weekended at the port on return, could not get a ferry until monday at the earliest, so I came back on a crews ticket for a important anniversary party, I returned from Northampton on Sunday afternoon, after being took to Towcester at the traffic lights off of the A5, I was pick up by a Southampton driver who was on for Pitters a elderly driver about 60’s, he drove Ok until we got on the Oxford - by- pass, then it was full of roundabouts, we got past A420 one and we was heading down hill comming to the next one, I was thinking he has got to slow down, in the end I said driver roundabout, he said oh my god braked but kept straight on an stopped in the middle stuck in the mud, I will have to get towed out I do not know what my boss will say. After saying I must leave him Or I will not catch my night ferry, I got another lift, but before I got in I asked if he was going through any roundabouts, he just laughted and said hope not, he dropped me at the gates. I wondered if anything happened to the driver, anyone heard about it, most likely he is dead now, I wonder if the second driver is around, any clues fellows.
