Hi Jacko, log sheets before log books and the drivers were such terrible writers that they used to end up making several out each day and when log books came in they were elastic and it was not unusual to have done 600 plus miles in 10 hours driving legal of coarse

Hello All
Ive posted this photo before of W.J.HILLS.But the bottom photo is of a Christmas eve early 60s i guess pre Bakers days having a Christmas drink (Grandad can be seen centre of the photo with a sandwich in his hand). You don’t see scenes like that any more
Regards Jacko.
Log books were fine until you had the dreaded “silent check”
Then you prayed that things were right!!!
Who remembers the little wooden huts along the roads? Wasn’t there one at the start of the Chandlersford bypass Winchester end on the left at Compton that is now the M3?
Pat, I`m to young to rember log books in the U.K, but I soon got the hang of them when I moved out here ,must have been my background and training.
A truck was parked at the ferry over here, shipping from North Island to South Island, a ministry bloke went up to the cab and asked the woman in passenger seat for the drivers logbook,( driver was off having a pee or something) the woman asked ministry bloke… which one do you want, the one for the South or the one for the North? Women eh?

I’ve had a quick scan throguh the postings on here and have seen nothing of the latest news on Harry Nash. It was only today that I learned that poor old Harry died suddenly on the 20th September. There is a service at Southampton crematorium this coming Thursday at 11.45 am. I don’t think there are many older drivers out there that didn’t know or work with old Harry. I worked with him from back in the early 60’s on two or three company’s and later actually employed him as a driver. I for one will try to attend the service and hope that a few more will show up to say farewell to him.
R.I.P. Harry.
Sad regards, Nobby.
