Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Hi all i think there was some sort of tie up with Richards & Wallington crane hire as well. :sunglasses:

BRS had a depot there at one time? Bottom end of Mayfield Rd.
Just across from a big hardware store owned by Block & Quayle? What became of them?

One of them lived near our own Punchy Dan at one time.

Mr Block and Mr Quayle sold B & Q off a long while ago, I think that was when one of them moved to Derbyshire in retirement? You need to be very wealthy to live in Mr Punchards area!

Rich, yeah 1st B&Q in the UK was where machine mart are and they then took the BRS yard between Harrison & Mayfield Rd’s. As a child in a push chair I remember the BRS trucks in and out of the yard yielding to let my mother cross the entrance.

Southampton also had the 1st ever "Sperrings " I believe up Bassett Green Rd by the Stoneham Arms now a chippy and pub a Co-Op.

All the big entrepreneurs start or end up here at the metropolis (Maidment Transport a case in point oh and Busbys)!

Hope you and Kay are well.

Mike

Few more

Saw this picture on the internet and the reg is VHO so anyone know if it was a Hampshire purchase first off, Buzzer.

It is sad to hear of the passing of TIR Tone.
Many years of running with Mappo when he was on Squibbies, then we started doing the tellies on STS followed by our adventures all over Europe and Scandinavia with Chingford’s.
A genial man who never had a bad word to say about anyone.
A great supporter and founder of the August Bash. I was trying to post a photo that I took of him at the last one in 2019 but the file is too big. He looked well and he himself felt as well as could be expected. He said then his target was Christmas.
Tony (TIR, Mappo) Mapson, a great man, friend and a Legend in our parts. R.I.P.

I found a PIX resizer prog. Here is the photo:

R.K. Crisp had a tie up with Centrale Routiere. I assume after they stopped doing French work, that mantle was taken up by LTS, they had a tie up with them IIRC.

I will be leaving Bridport at 7.00 am on Friday to go to Tony’s (Mappo) funeral if any one needs a lift on the way please let me know.

I apologise for my mix up of dates the same applies for the 12th December.

No one of my better efforts.
