kerbut:
I read on the SOFA Facebook page Tony Mapson is back in Hospital, I hope all goes well for him
Copied today from the SOFA Facebook page :
Tony Mapson sent home after radiotherapy…nothing more they can do except pain control…Keep fighting it Old Friend, we’re fighting it with you
Hi Kerbut, thanks for the good wishes mate, i know i rarely visit T/net these days but most of the lads have been very supportive on Facebook… You are correct there is not much more can be done for me, other than pain control which has become a real issue since the cancer spread to my spine, i’m still doing my best to remain upbeat and i’m still here so that’s a bonus…hope everyone else on here is in good health.
Hi Nigel, yes of course we’ve chatted on F/B, sorry for not making the connection sooner mate… You’re still not getting that fiver though, ask Charlie 1 …i’ve heard he’s minted.
I am deeply saddened to hear that Tony Mapson has passed away. I met Tony through Trucknet in 2016,
when he replied to a query that I put on this thread. Tony and I never met with each other, but every now
and again we would chat on the phone. We had a link with each other, we both passed our HGV Class 1
driving test on the same lorry, POU 920G, a Ford D series artic at Robert Baillie & Co Ltd at Horndean,
me in 1970, and Tony in 1971. My condolences to Tony`s family. Rest in peace Tony.
Ray Smyth.

First met Tony when he was 16, we worked at Simons /Oberyield near Swanwick around '66-ish, he was too young to drive, but that never stopped him, or me letting him, especially on the night shift later I got him a job on Smith of Maddison…
Over the years we’d bump into each other in various countries, even if we hadn’t seen each other for a year or two it was like we’d met the day before, he was easy to get on with.
He managed a week over here with us four years ago, it was nice to spend time with him, we did a lot of miles…
Liz kept in touch with him every other day in the last few months, I chatted with him for an hour at a time on the phone about our driving days, it took his mind off the pain for awhile.
He hoped he’d make Christmas, I hoped he’d makes a few more years.
Condolences to his family and all his many friends. RIP mate
Dean remember R.K.Crisp’s back when we used to ship out of Southampton, they used to do a lot of machinery removals to Italy on step frame trailers which sometimes were sheeted but the consequence of that was that the sheets ended up with many a hole and rips.
Loading one day out of Philco with washing machines in Bergamo one of there’s turned up to load, well he had four sheets all in some disrepair but there were about eight brit trucks loading so we all mucked in and with the aid of some big bits of cardboard we did a fair job in the end and it looked quite presentable, sleeper cabbed GUY Big J IIRC, cheers Buzzer.
