Hi ,ROBERT , THANKS for that only we ran oow /// G after Bakers , Cheers Barry

If my memory serves me right Bakers used to bring store pedestrian elevators (moving staircase type) back from Italy and looks like that is one on the trailer in the picture above ROW862G. They had a 50 footer for the longer one’s and I remember this well as I followed it over Mont Cenis one day going in to Italy and on the steps it’s under run bar used to ground out lifting the rear wheels on some occasions, another Mary Hopkin’s moment, cheers Buzzer.

I thought BFC was one of many outfits based and running out of common barn in Eastleigh where B&Q are now ?

gazzer:
BFC as in Barry’s Flying Circus, Chandlers Ford? Or was there another?

Re: Bowdens ; Its funny ,when I think of it ? In the old days it used to take about 3 days to clear in Lisbon. So every night I used to go to the clubs ,fall in love & end up in an hotel. But there was this Bowdens driver who had this handlebar mustache & would go to the Bavarian bar that was crammed full of crumpet. He used to stand at the bar wearing a blazer ,grey flannels ,collar & tie. He went there because they served beer in big pint mugs. He used to smoke his pipe & drink his beer like a sergeant major ,while all around him were truckers from all over Europe totally wasted & really wild women doing what they did best. He never went with any of the girls. But as soon as he got to Lisbon he made a bee-line to the nightclubs. A respectable oddity… ( I was there now )

Harry, might this have been a different Bowden from the BFI one? I showed the thread to one of Bowden’s directors this morning, and he reckoned their drivers would have got dizzy long before Dover! Apparently they didn’t go over the water.

BFC I think was owned by a bloke called Bill Aldridge,he used to drive about in a 4 wheel green bedford tipper,I think he was something to do with Royle Jackson who were down at Woolston,Just to stop us falling off page 1.Regards Todd
