Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

And very well deserved they were too Jim…by the way, I got talking to a fellow called Mickey Martin. He’s from down your way and used to have his own lorries doing middle east and other far flung places. What a smashing fella he was, and he showed me his photo album. Does anyone remember him?. Some of his motors had ‘Martintrans’ on them and he did a lot out of Newhaven in the 70s & 80s.

Nice one Jimmer, I,m chuffed for ya mate.

Mark r…I personally don’t know Mickey Martin, though our paths may have crossed.
Only ever used Newhaven now and then, it wasn,t a regular route for me.

Hi Mark many thanks for that, yes Mickey Martin and his son Tim spent a bit of time at mine and Tony Christies table chatting and showing us the pics his dad had taken, but what a shame as they are not computor people and they’ve never been shown on the net ! He was a very humble and nice fella, truly one of the old school !
I also meet David Miller who turned up to see the model I’d built of his old Oryx F89 he seemed very pleased with it and I’m waiting for him to call as he’s wants to buy it, my brother who turned up later in the day and I sat outside talking to David Miller and his friend Ken Lane, the stories they were telling us about the history of Oryx Freight Lines and other stories about their days in the Middle East amazing!! I’m looking forward to the Retro Show and on the Sat is the Middle East day I hope I can get to that ! I know it’s gonna be good !! It will be a history lesson in Middle East transport and as David Miller said " will never be seen again" see you there Mark!

Regards Jim

Hi Tony many thanks for that , and no I’ll leave the pic for you to put on

Jim. Many congratulations on your award. I don’t know many famous people. Can I have your autograph please.Write it on a blank cheque and I will look after it. Your skills are second to non mate. Can Tony and myself come round and paint your fence free? Tony will supply the paint and in my position as foreman I will sit and criticize. Unless Buzzer is available.Regards Charlie

Jim,

Just to add my congratulations well done, you deserve it for all the detail and time you put into it, the Turbostar you did for me passed it’s MOT this morning

Regarding the fence a good idea to plant bushes, GazIOW knows all about them as he used to trim Valerie’s bush on a weekly basis

I’ll sort those pics out for Chippy’s model this week.

Richard
