Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Sad loss of John Shaw. Last saw him working for South West Trucks a while back when he was " confined" to the workshop. I tried desperately to get him to come to the last August bash but he wouldn’t have it. “Too much diesel smoke around here nipper, don’t want any at weekends too!” I tried.

I had a Scania for a while and purchased some lightly used items from Pat. The first thing John would say: “Gotta cheque?” Once it was waved about, we could do business. Good financial controller there too Pat.

Buzzer: Anne Phillips aka “The Mother Trucker” on the CB at the time. She did a lot of Containers. I haven’t seen her on that new Mother Truckers series on the telly though. She would be about 65 now.

Yes, Gary, I have heard that many a time!

He would ask customers if they had brought any money for the spares, if they said they would see me later, he would often say " You don’t go shopping to Sainsbury’s with no f**king money so why do you do that here?"

Poor old John he lost his wife Maggie a few years ago!

Regards Pat

Hi Jim yet another superb model, details so good. Cannot wait to see it in front of a tanker. All you need to do now is nip down Toys ‘R’ Us, purchase the smallest / shortest Action Man you can find, coat the figure in fifth wheel grease and stand it next to the Iveco - Hey Presto! I life-like model of Mr Brady!!!

I,ve just had an E- mail from Fred Blair via Trucknet.
Who remembers Fred ■■?..He used to drive for Squibby ( do you remember him Dave…Fergie47 )and then later for
Colin Wilkes for Hocfun.
He,s been living in the States for 21 years in Illinois as an owner driver doing coast to coast.
I had,nt seen or heard of Fred for about 25 years. Small world innit. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:
Fred obviously looks in to have made contact.
The names he recalls are Bev Wyatt, John Lee, John Smith, Cluey, ( yes you Pete ) and Bingo ( sadly had to tell Fred of Bingo,s passing )
Anyone else on here know Fred.■■?

Hi Mappo,

I dont suppose you have Freds email address have you? I wanted to let him know my Mum had died a couple of years ago but never had any contact details for him.

on a night out.Had a few beers and covered a few miles as you do.If you send him another email Tony please give him my very best.Regards Charlie
