STOP PRESS.
It has been reported that an elderly retired lorry driver was out walking his dogs
last week when he slipped on the frosty grass and broke his hip.(I think that it was drink or drug
induced.) He is now back home and moaning and groaning about everything. It would help him
no end if eveyone would send him expensive gifts and money. Many thanks in advance.
Regards in pain Charlie

Had a chat with Pat Duffy 2day and he reminded me of the christmas meals we used to have at the Prince of Wales at Shirrell Heath we only had about 12 trucks then and the place held just over 40 places we used to fill it up with our drivers and wifes or partners and anybody else who we thought deemed a place at this annuall occasion thats how Pat got in . Later as we grew we moved the party to a hall at Sarisbury Green and the landlord of the Prince of Wales had by then progressed to doing hogroasts.so we stuck with him and we still use him to this day. I remember Tutty takin home the remainder of the carcuss one year in his golf GTI surposedly for the dog then on sunday he entertained Scott Wacker and a few more for lunch and i dont think the dog got much at all such good memories maybe i’ll have to do something in the summer for a party along those lines and we could all reburn some old tarmac.

Hay Buzzer; I only managed to get to a couple of your xmas do’s when I worked for you dam good do’s they were too.Onthe first one I introduced Karen my wife to you,she said that she had heard all about you,you replied I bet you have and walked away smiling,we had a good night, thanks… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Just found a post by TIR original on sunday jan. 20th 2008 about PBC european haulage. I worked for Frank Allen in the early 70’s and infact he was my next door neighbour until 5 years ago. He moved only a short distance and still resides in Bursledon he is 82yo. and his wife is still goin strong to’ I remember the shortened trucks and the crap tilts which were alright as long as you did not have to strip them out as most were welded up to stop them falling to bits happy days eh.

Found ana old photo of the A E Strattons Transport tables for the Road Haulage Dinner Dance Southampton Polygon Hotel 1973

In this photo is Steve Harbutt (Road Transport Manager) and his wife Wendy, and a 16 year old wife to be for Albert Stratton, her mother is in the foreground wearing the animal. not sure of the others round the table, some employees others were contacts from Pirelli, the strattons at that time had 3 tables. I will look for more photos.
