Hi all.Sadly heard of the passing of another old Southampton driver today by the name of Perce Williams who was 91 years old. Only older members will have known him because of his age. He spent most of his working life with Pitter Bros. right up to his retirement. The photo of Pitters Commer TS3 loaded with cape apples leaving Southampton docks (shown earlier in the thread) would have been in his hey-days. This was back in the 50’s when he was was working with drvers such as Percy Pearce,Alf Carter,Jess Stratton,Bill Barfoot,Jock Shaw,Jeff Limburn,Smudger Smith Alfie Simmonds etc. (Names you only remember if you are of a certain age).
Goodbye Percy and Rest In Peace.
I was sent this pic to put on here

Hi TIR and welcome back to the thread mate albeit with a sad posting. Condolences to Perce,s family and friends.
I did,nt know Perce ( too young ) although i did drive for Pitters for a short spell in the early 70,s
so our paths probably crossed but i did,nt stay there too long.
Hope you,re keeping well yourself Nobby.

I’ve nicked this of Buzzer’s thread.
As I recall Jameson’s didn’t own a VOLVO, it was a subbie by the name of James Ponting I think. Remember him coming into Prince’s. Prince’s didn’t supply the vehicle and Jameson’s didn’t have an account. Looks as though the reg ends 77P.
Another pic from Marc (Bubbleman)'s excellent Scrapbook thread

Re Jameson and the Volvo.Unless my tired old brain is wrong,I think that you will find that I drove it and it was half inched
in Concorrezo one sad night.Ask GAZ IOW.Hence my parting of the ways.Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie. Maybe that was before my time at Prince’s. I think Mr Ponting left Jamies and went to D.F.Rangers at Micheldever with his VOLVO. Do you remember him? I think he came from Basingstoke way.
Is that when you bought your way into haulage with the Moggy Pick-up? With the proceeds if you know what I mean? Not from the truck, the redundancy…which I’m sure you guessed. I think! What was on the load by the way? Was it parked in the square? This is not “New Tricks” revisited…but anything you do say…
